2020 California 1400 Touring purchase in Process

Hello, I am anxiously awaiting some paperwork from a dealer in Ohio to complete my purchase of the subject motorcycle. This bike was previously owned by a member (BroBro) here based upon what I can tell. If the original owner is willing to communicate with me I would love to ask a few questions about it because it has an aftermarket exhaust installed as well as a custom windscreen. Would like to know if any remapping has been done as a result of the exhaust changeover and anything else that might help me enjoy the bike more than I already anticipate :) Looking forward to reporting on the fun of getting delivery of the bike and my first impressions as well as some photos of course. I am moving over to the Guzzi from a 2004 BMW R1200CLC and not because the Beemer isn't a blast. But the Guzzi California was what I was searching for when I bought the 2-year old BMW back in 2006. Just could not find the Guzzi I wanted back then so now I am forced to own a beautiful 2020 version rather than a mid 20's version! Oh well! Today I called the dealer salesman to have him confirm the two keys coming with the bike will operate and start the machine. I was concerned after reading horror stories about people getting stuck with only one key etc. Thankfully the salesman reported back that in fact both keys do work and that they reset the personal code for me and gave me the code! Whew! That's a load of my mind and now the New Year promises to provide me with my long-awaited Moto Guzzi California experience. Can't wait and I also can tell this forum will be as much if not more help to me as the BMW Chromeheads have been to me over the years. Happy New Year everyone!

The bike is being purchased from State 8 Motorcycles in Ohio who also seem to be good people :) Also, the original owner has contacted me and answered the questions I had so all is going well with the purchase.

Thanks, I am splitting my time between our place in CT and one in MA at the moment so will mostly be in MA.  I will probably rely on Razee Motorcycle Center in RI which is half way in between. :)

My 2020 Cali arrived today at my Guzzi dealership. I am very excited and anxious to get on the road and I am now poring over the "Use+ Maintenance Book" that came with it.  It is dated 01/2017. Am I correct that all the models following 2017 to 2020 are exactly the same?  Are there any differences minor or otherwise that I should be aware of or is the 2017 manual correct in all respects for this 2020 California?

If it makes you feel better the latest owners man I found was 2018, compare if you wish but most likely the same bike.

Thank you.  I downloaded it but although it purports to be in English as well as a number of other languages I could not find a word in English! :) Anyhow, I am not overly concerned but certainly curious if there are some details that differ between the 2017,18,19 & 20 versions of this bike.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a Guzzi manual that is "correct in all respects."

No Kidding, V11 Sports said to use 5/40 oil, taken from the Hydro manual.

I had a '16 1400 Audace. If I remember everything correctly I believe the only change from '16 to '17 was the switch gear. The main thing was the cruise control switches were moved from the right side of the handlebar to the left. It was kind of a pain to engage the speed desired while  holding the throttle. The bike was so responsive it was hard to set the actual speed you wanted which was needed as there was no + or - button or resume function. With the '17 models these features were added from what I know. My '23 T120 Triumph had the same miserable setup although it was on the correct left side. Not a big deal with light traffic. The 1400 engine is amazing though good horsepower with lots of torque.

You have to go west of the Mississippi to fully enjoy the engine/transmission on the bike.  Texas maybe.  Fun to ride on the highway when the posted speeds are 80mph and you have to pass.

I bought the same colorway Cali 1400 (2018 MY) two years ago and believe there were no significant changes after the 2017 update of cruise control. Mine is still tucked away on a battery tender until the roads are snow free.
It's no lightweight so takes some effort to push around the garage but otherwise a great ride and work of art! If you're coming up through southern NH sometime, let me know - always looking for excuse for coffee and bike chat.

Mine's a 2017. Moto Guzzi heated grips for the Cali Touring don't fit 2017 and later
models.

She's a big, fast, comfortable, Italian girl with expensive taste in shoes!
