What engine do I have?!
« on: March 11, 2025, 12:13:00 AM »
As my username implies, I recently purchased a "FrankenGuzzi". Previous owner had the bike for 10+ years, but didn't know much about it. From what I've figured out, the bike started out as a '73 Eldorado. Front forks are from a V1000 Convert. The motor has me stumped, though.  :undecided: It's a 1000cc w/five-speed trans. I've posted some pics, but please let me know if there is another way to positively ID the motor as I need to order parts. Many thanks!

looks like you have an Sp1000 / G5 / convert engine (VGprefix on engine #s)Those have cast iron bores, so no chrome flaking to worry about. I like it!

There will be a serial code letter  and number just next to the oil filler on the crankcase. That will tell you what the case is but of course the heads and the rest might have been replaced.

VG 130941 is stamped next to the fill plug.
