MG prices

If considering a new MG or any other brand from Europe you may want to buy soon. Unless something changes looks like starting next month prices may rise significantly.

I'm sure everyone is aware of this news, so not sure that this post is needed.

Something to keep in mind is current inventory sitting on dealership floors and in USA warehouses will not be affected.  And that's likely enough inventory to get Moto Guzzi USA through these international trade negotiations...

We'll nuke this thread if is spirals into politics.   :copcar:

The new MG looks pretty cool, but I really wish it had an internal combustion engine, not an electric motor.  :grin: :evil:

I worked in a lumber yard. The boss changed prices on lumber almost daily. He priced according to market price. If we bought high and sold low so be it. If the opposite so much the better however it all came out in the end.

I can't see how raising prices on MG's is going to be a good thing in the long run. BMW can get away with opportunistic pricing given their deep pocketed clientele but that clearly isn't the case with Moto Guzzi.  I do wonder how this will impact the cost of parts though that has a smaller cost impact when talking about individual parts.

I've had no problem with the 'buying' side of the equation, much to SWMBOs dismay, I am failing on the selling side.

Currently at 8 MC and 3 cars plus my DD Truck. I keep saying that I am going to sell, but never get around to it. But, my 'buys' are in the sub 3k category. You could add the last 4 together and break even with a new V7 Sport....

I'm really looking forward to seeing it in person, and am leaning towards selling a few to make space for it, but every time I ride one of the bikes I'm thinking about selling, they run so perfect, and unique and paid for, I balk at the idea.

I can't see a new water cooled Guzzi in my future, but the V7 Sport and V7 10 are very appealing.

The main problem is all of my Guzzi's except the new Norge are in perfect condition and set up exactly as I like. The Norge is getting updates and farkles to tailor it to me and my needs.

The Yamahas have been in storage for...... Gasp 13 years. All prepped properly but still need TLC. The 750 Triple just needs a carb clean and tuneup and tires. My old faithful 1100 needs much more to be done right. Timesert for a seized spark plug, valve guide seals, wiring for advance module, and a few other things. These should keep me occupied for a while.

On the 'tariffs' increased costs issue, my strong suspension is they are a transitory tool and won't last long.

This is why several years ago I self imposed the 1000 mile per year rule. If a bike does not get ridden a 1000 miles in 365 days it gets sold. Makes the hard decision easy and how several of my forever bikes got culled. I used to have 9 bikes 8 of which were registered and insured and one New Years Eve doing my year end mileage compliation I realized some of these bikes got ridden under 50 miles a year. Other a couple hundred and two or three got the lions share fof the mileage (the ones I could easily get out of the garage). It was then I decided that it was senseless to register and insure (cheap to do so in Pennsylvania $18 registeration and $150 +/- per year for insurance) motorcycles I was not using. Originally I loved going out and seeing my hoard of Italian beauties but realized if I want art to look at I'd get pictures and hang on the wall. Motorcycles are made for riding and wearing out not for sitting there unused. I also realized that none of my bikes were one off's so if I ever got the hankering I could buy another. Funny thing is none of my forever bikes once sold have I really wanted back. The rule was implemneted in 2014 and has been enforced and I'm happier for it. It has freed up space and money to buy other bikes to love, ride and sell and  the cycle repeats over an over. Since in 2014 its repeated around 42 times. By the end of they year I hope its 45 or 47 times :thumb:

The latter.

As USD to Euro exchange rates have varied between parity and 1.3, US retail prices for European motorcycles have never varied to match.  When you would expect US prices to drop because the dollar has risen in value, they don’t, the manufacturer just pockets the money.  When the opposite is true, the prices don’t seem to rise much.  The manufacturers sell into a given market at the price that matches market demand and competition, and they make money anyway - there is a lot of margin relative to their actual cost of production.   I think you will see similar with any tariffs applied, prices may vary but in the end they’ll take what they can get, just like always, while maintaining volume.

Short memories? You've had it too good, for too long!
Back before the Millennium, I recall USD to GBP being >1.6, with Euro being about 1.4 (a bit later). Combine that with retail prices that were/are nearly parity, pound for dollar and it shows off the rip-off UK at its worst.
Today, with the added rise in US postal rates, I totally avoid buying from the U.S. - too expensive.
(Long gone are the cheap fly & drive holidays to Florida, that I should've taken at the time but didn't.)

DoubleGuzzi, here is the USD to GBP exchange rate data since the early 70s.  See the massive dip in about 1973?  That was when my parents sold the house in the UK they had built themselves in the 50s, after it being on the market for a year, as the currency value simultaneously decreased before they converted the money to dollars.  Not terribly good timing because it then rebounded for a while  :smiley:   The value of the pound has regardless been on a very long, slow decreasing trajectory for a long time, in the mid-1930s it was $5 USD or so.
