Favorite Guzzi pic
« on: April 25, 2025, 03:28:21 PM »
Like the title says, what’s your favorite Guzzi pic? Is it one that drew you in eventually to fall in love with the brand? Was it one you saw when you were young, cheesecake model on the bike & all? For me it was this one:

It was on the cover or a “centerfold” of a Cycle World issue back in the day. I wanna say 1997 because that was the year I saw a Guzzi and thought, wow. What a cool looking bike. Not that I hadn’t seen a Guzzi before then, but that was the 1st time I consciously remember thinking one was cool. And by “cool” I mean, I wanted one.

Only because of content. My birth mother (Whom I first met about five years ago) going on our first ride together little over four years ago. She and her husband rode their own small Yamahas locally in Nevada and Utah and traveled together some on a H-D. She is now 88 and still riding with me and can tolerate 50-100+ miles rides well. She likes me getting a bit sporty in the curves.

Not the one that got me into Guzzi, I'm not sure cameras were even a thing back then and certainly no digital pics around. Perhaps a magazine pic still exists but finding it would be a labor if even possible. So as a compromise this is the one that has brought me back to the community and I'm looking forward to receiving it in a week or so.

My V7 Sport was just another cheap Italian project bike that I could afford to add to my collection.   I wasn’t looking for it.   a friend called me about some old bikes they found when they opened a long-delinquent storage unit.  I never really hunted for or even studied other Guzzis after that.  Once it was running, my old V7 Sport was all that I needed.

Decades later, another friend called me about a loop chunk that was part of a similar group of abandoned bikes.  after it came home with me, I happened to find some pics like this one from Monza of the so-called 1969 Record bikes.  that started a whole new interest in early Guzzi V-Twin sport bikes for me-

One of these in a magazine ad caught my attention several years back. Couldn't find one to buy so I regrettably moved on. This is a picture from this web site, I don't remember who owns it. Sorry. (BusaNinja811 ?)

This is the photo that really got me hooked on Moto Guzzi. I already owned my first Guzzi, a '76 Convert with a California sidecar on it. I bought it from an old guy's estate and liked it but it was an old man's ride and not really my interest at the time. I saw that cover and had to have that bike. Sold the Convert and bought the SP new in fall of '83. Kept it for 19 years and 75K miles. Still have the magazine...

Lucian's picture of his daughter is pretty cool- I have one of mine (mine=my daughter) at a good lean as well.  Cool stuff.
here's a favorite of mine- John Brown B.J. Schwartz at the Iowa rally in 2004 or so.  It was the national, so a lot of folks showed up.
Anyhow- JB was such a nice guy to meet.

thumbnail-BASQUE-LEMANS" border="0

great thread!

Personally, I almost NEVER stop and take pics when I'm riding, I just hate futzing with equipment when I could be back on the road, but one day I had a disposable film camera on me and thought why not.

Man I loved that bike

But it was truly a heaven and hell experience as it just kept breaking. I think the crank and the pistons were the only thing that never gave me any trouble!!!

(it's in bits in my garage and maybe maybe will get rebuilt one day...)

Are you sure about that name?  I may be wrong, but the pic and the bike seem vaguely familiar.
I think who we see is "BJ Schwartz".  Many years ago was an authorized Guzzi mechanic near Los Angeles.  Moved out into the desert.  Lots of Guzzi history in that head.  Long deceased now.

You're absolutely right, Patrick.  I had another Guzzi friend on my mind at the time.  I'll edit it for correction.  Thanks for the head's up.
I had a couple of very good conversations with BJ.  He was a very interesting guy.
