Storing a spare fuel tank for long period
« on: May 01, 2025, 08:50:48 PM »
I have a spare fuel tank for my Eldorado and want to store it for a long time , I was thinking of filling it to the top with diesel but that will still incur condensation , what is the best way to preserve the inside and keep rust and condensation away, Thanks Ray

I’ve had good results with automatic transmission oil. Put enough in and roll it around to coat everything. Easy rinse out and if some goes in the carb bowl, it helps o rings and seals.

I would probably generously spray marine motor fogging oil in it, then store it indoors in a relatively dry spot. Bet it would last 100 years or more that way.

While that would work exceedingly well, wouldn’t it ( cold sweat breaking out) cost money?

Ha ha, that's true. Google suggests a whole $6-10.

I've used this as well as Marvel MO and most recently Seafoam. I am about to check my XS1100 tank which has been sitting for 10+ years and will report back. Can't remember what I used but was one of the 3.

I would also consider 2 stroke oil. I sticks to everything. One of the things it is designed to do.

Fogging oil.  That's what it's designed to do.
