Mille GT Battery wiring
« on: May 04, 2025, 04:57:23 PM »
Hello All - just getting back to my 89 Mille.
I had disconnected the battery and the leads were laying about.  The braided ground strap and a black lead go to the NEG side of the battery, but I am uncertain about the remaining 3 leads. (see pic)
The 2-into-1 red wires are to the (+) side, but the other 2 wires?  What are they? They can reach either the (+) or the (-) terminals.
Thanks.

You need to look at wiring schematic, that negative woven wire goes bad but still looks good, a Guzzi fail. I replaced many.

OK, went and looked at drawings from the supplements from other models that year, I don't have one from Mille. The rest all have 3 wires from positive.
One had Battery + lead to starter, fuse board, regulator. One had Battery + lead to starter, fuse board, key switch. They only had a big one on Negative side. One had Battery + lead to starter and one to diode board on my Cal 2.
Look to see were wires go to, check w/continuity test to confirm.

Look herein. Cal 3 is about as close as you can get. Never a specific Mille GT diagram or manual so we make do.

Could be why I don't have one in paper. You have a Mille, go look. I got to work on Jeep.

Yeah, but mines not stock in the wiring department! It won't match his, that's for sure. Only one positive and one negative at battery, everything moved to a master fuse and a relay for safety and because I could. My bike has many electrical modifications over the years mostly for safety and reliability. It still has the occasional problem/hiccup but not like it used to. What's that old saw about Guzzi making electricians of owners/riders since 1921. At least it ain't Lucas bad!

I was wondering about the second black wire at the NEG batt pole.  It is about 12 or 14 gauge.
Any ideas?
I do not have any "extras" on the bike (like extra lights, horns, etc)

It's raining constantly, so it's worth this posting to save at least 30 minutes of time diverted to ask experts (5 minutes to check, but 25 minutes dropping other projects, changing concentration from Alfa or MGA, getting down to the battery, freeing this or that up)...if you have a dozen other projects, you'll know what I'm talking about, right?

Look what I found, owners manual last page is wiring diagram-----------------------------------

https://guzzitek.org/gb/mu_us_uk/1000/1000GT_Util(GB).pdf

I understand about other projects, diagram shows 1 other wire besides to starter and it goes to fuse box.

Good on you Steve!!!!!

I've never seen that document not even with the new ones we delivered! I'll print myself a copy! When we asked Moto America about owner's manuals they told us they were delayed and would be forthcoming, never saw one.

I was setting up new ones too, I didn't deal w/owners manuals. Some came with dist w/points and some the crappy electronic that had 1 sensor/2 pick ups at 89.5* they would never be smooth. Had a seat lock that was junk.

For Baloo: I think you'll have to trace & follow where wires go to find out what they are unless another Mille owner shows up.
