A friend of mine NW of you got one w/D&D pipes, chip, just like that one. He's been looking for someone to do the pump, got everything but ability. Want to do it for him?

Yeah right after I get the belts, forks, and pump done on mine and rebuild my T160 so it will definitely be a while. So I'll pass on that but thanks for thinking of me :) Sounds like you need to come back home for an extended visit to work on Centauros.

Steve, I assume you have done this oil pump work in the past?

No one there wants to work on them I guess. Greg in Genoa did his own. I may be up there in late July for a party. Sad about wrenches up there, just Joe and he's booked heavy.
His pump shows no signs of trouble and is low mileage but he wanted to get it done. His belts are originals but not aged.

Centauro's (guzzi's in general) do well on BAT. https://bringatrailer.com/search/?s=centauro

I've been enjoying the heck out of the Centy I bought from JJ. Even the broom yellow color has grown on me. I need to do something about the exhaust crossover.

What is he doing on the pump? Putting in some kind of bearing for the shaft?

Correct , also a gear in the front group breaks. If you go to COG forum, it's all explained.

There's a couple of different routes to fix the potential oil pump issue. the first two require a new steel oil pump gear.
1 - Shim the oil pump with a bronze bushing,
2 - New billet aftermarket pump
3 - V11 pump and chain drive conversion

I'm not sure if the oil pump issue is overblown.
I ended up going with a billet pump and 1 steel oil pump gear from Joe Caruso on my RS. High quality components.
JJ did the Caruso billet pump and ALL of Joes' steel gears under the timing cover on the centy.

I too went with a steel Caruso gear set (oil pump and service shaft) and Joe's pump.

I don't think it's so much of an issue on the Centi, or any of the US Daytonas either for that matter, but the pump on all the Daytonas and Centis had longer rotors and is geared to run faster than any of the 2v/v models.
Cooling the heads (which run very hot) and higher red line, (HiCams ran with increased pressure) possibly?

The V11 solution, is certainly cheaper, but Guzzi only moved to the older smaller pump, installed on the 2v/v bikes, on the MGS-01 after modifications to the lubrication system, including a reduction in overboard losses.

I need it on my engine as it runs the extreme "C" kit cams and cause the bike to overheat in any sort of town traffic.

All that said personally I haven't heard of any engines destructing and being diagnosed specifically due to lack of lubrication, oil pump failures exempted.

These are the listed tools for the Daytona RS/Centauro in the shop manual. Specifically tools 1 thru 4 are for the cams, belts, etc., for those of you who have done this work, did you acquire these tools or used something else to do this work related to the oil pump?  My Daytona has low miles and I keep putting off this oil pump work, mostly because of the tools, etc. I’ve rebuilt twin Guzzi engines but this one is intimidating to me as an amateur.

Nice to see it finally getting some love. When I sold mine two years ago I had only one person ask about it and he bought it.
