Is this a good deal?
« on: May 13, 2025, 09:04:04 AM »

I know nothing about these type of Moto Guzzi's. This bike is near me.
This is not an advertisement, I’m just seeking information on this particular model and its potential value.
Knowledgeable, opinions, and advice will be appreciated.

I think that is a no-brainer. As I posted a bit earlier I came across another but is a barn find in poor condition. It was in a corner behind a bunch of junk covered in dust, dirt etc. It has been parked for many years the number of which is unknown. Running when parked. I didn't investigate further due to lack of time. I went back yesterday to see if I could get further info and possibly make a deal. I had been told the owner wanted to sell but the new answer was that the owner wanted to get it running first. Right! He is elderly and gets around with a mobility scooter. For that money you should jump on it. Pun intended. :thumb:

Let's face it. No 50 year old bike is a bargain, but that one sure does look nice. With that low of miles and the cylinders done, it should be good to go, and he will probably get that price. I would look at the bottom rear and inside the tank for rust though.

I'd plan on replacing almost everything.  Rubber and seals don't last that long.  And a whole lot more.

Most of the heavy lifting has been done.  You're lucky, it's in your neck of the woods.  Pay the price.  Don't haggle because I would buy it today with cash in about an hour if it was out here.  :boozing:

Life is too short to waste over the small amount of discretionary money between something being a smoking deal or a fair price.    And no one rides a Guzzi because it’s the cheapest bike on the road…..

It looks like a realistic price for a realistic bike, Dan.   Get it and enjoy it while you can.

Thanks for the replies fellows.
The issue I would have is that I’m not very mechanical. Therefore I’d have to pay someone to do any of the possible and maybe even probable issues that could need attention.
The owner is supposed to call me tonight and I’ll be able to get more information.
I’ll more than likely put the add (Facebook Marketplace) on the Swap Meet where it would belong.
The bike is near Charlotte, NC, therefore if any of you guys near that location and interested, you can contact the owner, which I’ll forward to you his contact information.

Here's the scenario for buying it and moving it to Hawaii.  Fly-n-ride.  Call owner.  Tell him, I'm interested.  Get details for the bike.  Ask to hear engine running.  Check to see if he's a MGNOC member.  This is not required but would confirm info.  Pay a deposit to hold the bike.  Pay in cash the rest of the money in person.

Book flight to nearest commercial airport.  Rent car.  Take tools with me.  Do the work needed.  Return rent-a-car.  Ride bike to nearest local bike shop that does tube/tires.  Have them do the tire changes after pulling the wheels.  Order parts & have delivery to motel.  Complete work.  Call & have insurance coverage placed on bike.  Get temp. plate/reg.  Head west.  Look at maps before and plan route to include motorcycle shops and auto parts stores.

Short abbreviated work for a fly-n-ride.  Anyone can modify/add to the short list.  Have done this a number of times.  I'd ride to PHX.  Leave bike with the rest of the bikes then come back to PHX on another vacation and ride to National City, CA for shipment to Hilo, Hawaii.  Reservations needed to ship.  A week later for the bike to arrive.  PU bike, pay additional charges.  Final ride home would be through the center of the island 1 1/2-hour ride to my house.

Many details missing.  I have a V7 Sport in the garage, not interested in the bike.  My 1400 Cal Touring and SP1000NT are in Phx.  Don't need it.  So.....this safe for a buyer.  😁

Weird sequence you got there (typical of USA?); ride uninsured. In the UK it's not only illegal but foolish should an accident (to a 3rdparty) occur.

"Anyone can modify/add to the short list."  The list was off the top of my head.  Insurance is in there.  Sequence depends on all the factors.  So no worries.   :boozing:  Don't care because not buying.

I spoke we the the owner and the bike has quite a history.
It has been totally restored top to bottom and the mileage is actual.
Too much to get into here.
I’m going to send the add to the Swap Meet tomorrow.
If anyone wants more details feel free to PM me and we can talk and I’ll relay all the particulars the owner offered me.
Thanks to all for the comments and interaction.

Ok, I am going to look at this bike

The plus side is it seems to be priced right and it is close by
I am fairly decent mechanical capable.

The bad I am relatively new to motorcycles and brand new new to moto guzzi's.

Could be interesting.
