Honda NT 700
« on: May 24, 2025, 05:32:39 PM »
Seriously considering this machine, have a K75 and a BMWF800gt now.
Found a low mileage 2010 no ABS clean one, how does it compare with my
F800……worth looking into it? How does it stand up to a V7…..?

I had a Deauville for about a year until it was written off by the insurance company after a minor accident. It was an excellent comfortable, reliable, entirely characterless bike that did its job as a daily commuter really well. Being fully faired makes doing any work on it tiresome and you get a bit of engine heat on your legs in summer. The screen worked really well. And it has a 'baguette hole' (look it up).

I saw more of them in four days in Paris than I have seen in 10 years in Australia. I think this means that in Europe they are considered a viable option as your only means of transport rather than a weekend toy like many bikes in other countries.

I've had a Guzzi Breva 750 for nearly 10 years now. It's a lot more fun.

I know nothing about this bike.  Is it a descendant of the Hawk 650?

From memory.
It has a tiny gas tank.
It has the fuel filler under the seat.
It is a bit underpowered.
Chain drive.
Typical Honda boring ride.

I see a few Breva’s for sale in area…….how does it compare they compare to the V7.
I like the V7 look more than the Breva, but is it still a competent machine?

Loving my Breva in some ways more than my V7III. I'd replace it with a newer, better condition one given a good deal. It's relatively light, slim, agile and a sitting-in rather than sitting-on experience. Totally under-rated as far as I'm concerned.

How do you like it more than the V7? Seems like the tank is much smaller?
Yours is an 08…….when was the last year for Breva?

In reverse, 2009: though I have seen a 2010 advertised - likely old showroom stock.
Dunno, if it's due to three times the amount of mileage, iridium plugs, black magic, whatever but the Breva butt dyno suggests that it pulls stronger mid-range upwards. Just crisper response and urgency - noticeable during overtaking in the 60-70mph zone and when giving it a blast. Flickability (steering response) is better on tighter twisties. Wheeling the bike around is less cumbersome and the narrower cylinder heads help in a tight garage (offset somewhat by the cheap crashbars that I have on it). This won't be applicable comparing with a V7-I which is the same/similar engine configuration.
No ABS/TC, so more 'back to basics'/retro.
Tank size is pretty irrelevant to me, as my typical longer run is just 130 miles or so (it'll last considerably further). Apart from one or two areas in the UK, a petrol station can be found within tank range, without much anxiety (excluding the cost!).

Looks wise, I'm kinda a traditionalist so prefer the V7 but the Breva did grow on me. A friend suggested it had a V-max look to it, with the black/silver livery of my one. Wheels are much easier to clean. Plastic fuel tank is the biggest gripe and the hatred it has for E10 petrol - hey, I wonder
if the V7 will run stronger with more expensive E5. Hmm, maybe smoother too.. Might try a half tank, for kicks & giggles.

I believe you are thinking of the NC 700, not NT 700.

The NC is a parallel twin, with a smallish gas tank, filler under seat and gets 60-ish MPG.  It was designed for ease of maintenance, low running costs and low-end torque.  DCT was an option and IIRC, is now standard on USA models.

The NT is a v-twin from the old Shadow/Hawk family line and overall is fairly conventional apart from being a mid-size touring bike.

I've had 2 GL500 Silver Wings.  I could be easily tempted by the NT 700.

Yes Merle……you have it completely correct. Have you ever had a NT 700?
I have read many good things about this machine. Very interested because of all the positives……very few negative remarks about it. Hopefully I will hear from others.
Curious how it compares to the V7…..BMW F800…..k75 ?
