Resetting the ABS/MGCT system
« on: June 02, 2025, 04:49:38 PM »
I have a Moto Guzzi V7iii Special with dual clocks. My stator burned up while on a long ride and I didn't notice it until the speedometer and ABS started acting up. The battery was drained. I put in a new stator and a new battery but I get a GENERAL SERVICE ALARM, the red triangle and the ABS light. (see photo) Bike runs and stops fine, voltage when riding is 13 - 14. I have tried to recalibrate the traction control system several times without any luck (starter button + clutch for 5 seconds, 20 mph in 2nd gear for 8 seconds). I have also tried to clear the code with guzzidiag.

1) I know I don't have ABS or traction control, but is it safe to ride? Seem to be running great.
2) Is there any other trick to resetting the MGCT?  Can it be done with Guzzidiag?
3) If I take it to the dealer, can their magic software tool solve the problem?

What does the speedo say when you toggle to MGCT (next after Clock)
Mine says 1

I have the same Guzzi V7III Special.
I just went and tried this.
With the display in MGCT position, engine running in Neutral Press and hold Start for a few seconds
It should toggle from 0 to 1,0,1 when you release the button, not as you press it. A quick press does nothing.
BTW my stator burned out in the first year, they shipped me a replacement
The replacement was damaged, they shipped it with rotor inside supported by the magnetic field, every time the package got dropped the rotor would spring down and crash into the windings.
They should be shipped with a disc inside to prevent that happening some thick cardboard to protect the windings is all it would take.
Rough as guts chinese windings.

If your trying to reset the traction control warning light. First make SURE your tire pressures are correct. Then follow the instructions as you listed. BUT..... Make sure that your are in the calibration mode and IIRR the light changes from blinking to solid and then do the ride.

I had to do this once. It's been some time and I don't remember for certain if the light is supposed to blink or be solid when it's ready. It took me a few tries until I figured out the instructions were a bit vague on how long to do the steps before the ride part. Once I figured it out, it went smoothly. Took me a few re-readings of the steps as well as a few tries.

Hope this helps,

A bit Vague, that's an understatement
Tom, what tells you when its in Calibration mode?
I put on an over size rear tire, so I may have figured it out once.

I like the Multi use display but it sure takes some setting to get it how you want it
Someone needs to come up with a decent set of instructions, I have been trying to get mine to display in metric units for weeks.

I finally cracked it :thumb:

I am in MGCT 1 when I try it. Maybe I'll switch to 2. I'll double check tire pressure too. Using my phone as a speedo to try to hit 18 mph.

The light needs to be flashing to set it. It says 18.6 I think you might get away with 20 but that's it. You need 8 seconds at that speed. When the light shuts off you have to turn the bike off for 60+ seconds.
Print the directions from the owners manual. If you don't have one go to Cadre's site and print them. Read them 4 times. It will probably take you a couple of times to get it right. I just did mine yesterday. You need to find a 1/2 mile or more of flat, no traffic road. Use T/C 1.

I think my issue was not holding the handlebar button down long enough. I think the light would flash and then I let up and it would go solid, it needed to flash contantly. I would use the bikes speedo rather than a phone for this job.

Good luck,

I still have to figure out how to get from traction mode 1 to traction mode 2

I'm a slow learner, what can I say?

Roy: Here is the owners manual if you don't have one.
https://cadrecycle.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/v7iii-race-stone-special.pdf

Go to page 36 and it has some vague info on settings. I would try toggling to the odometer for total miles and try holding the button down and see if it brings up another menu. I couldn't find a general settings menu listed in the manual.

EDIT: Page 41, bottom of page:

"Instrument panel configuration
Press and hold down the "MODE" button when in "ODOMETER" mode to access the
following advanced functions:
1) Gear shift indicator threshold (SET GEAR SHIFT)
2) Change odometer unit of measurement (SELECT UNIT (Km/mi))
3) Change consumption indicator unit of measurement (SELECT UNIT (L/100 - Km/
L - US mpg - IMP mpg))
4) Change thermometer unit of measurement (SET UNIT °C - °F)"

Hopefully if this doesn't help, someone can explain it to you here. Heck I'd learn something as well.

Tom, Thanksfor the link, I will bookmark it
My bike came with a thick manual but its not as clear as the one you attached.
I have pretty much got the dash figured out with the manual I have but i think this one will be able to resolve the last few issues.

I thought I had it figured out changed from mpg to metric but today I found it is km per Litre not Litres per 100km which is normal.
Oh well its back to the manual I guess.

BTW I see it also has the option of using US or Imperial gallons.

This clock need a manual all to itself.

One thing I did do was set up the central display in my Honda CRV to show how I want :thumb:

If you think about it. We buy our gas by the gallon pricing, you buy per litre. So MPG= Miles per Gallon, I would think you want to look at how may kilometers per litre your getting.
