V11EV Timing Chain Tensioner

I see T3 and V11 use the same aftermarket tensioner (MG Cycle).

I replaced the T3 stock tensioner at 25K miles. The aftermarket one lasted about 90K miles before it became significantly worn. I replaced it.





So now I'm riding around on my V11 with 90K miles on the clock and the original chain tensioner. I think I'm hearing a bit of timing chain rattle but I'm old (79) and hear a lot of things that don't exist and miss some that do.

Should I be replacing the original tensioner in the V11 engine or is it more durable than the one in the T3?

I sold mine at 86K with the original tensioner. Wasn’t hearing any weird noises but then I wear earplugs.

My 98 EV has 65K and is not making any rattle. My Cal2 has 95K on the same that I put in @ 35K in 93 when that one came on new models and it makes no noise. I think the big bow type is overkill.

Its probably fine but you never know unless you look. I had one with about 60 k miles that had been installed slightly crooked somehow, I don’t remember how but it started making a noise. It was a Valtek aftermarket. I suspect the strong spring gave the installer trouble. The blade was not quite parallel with the chain so I think it was bent. If its the original, I’d probably leave it unless it gets noisy or your in there to replace a seal or something. I don’t think it’s like the older ones that the rubbing strip deteriorates.
