24 Stelvio owners: a 7th gear?

Hey all,

I'm about 3000 miles in to my 2024 V100 Stelvio and a do a fair amount of freeway driving and I often feel when in 6th gear, feels like I could use a "7th" gear or different version of 6th/OD

Has anyone else on the new V100s felt this?

I don't know about another gear but better spacing would be nice.

A big Plus one from me! Unless it is going to cause better miles per gallon, don't bother. Really, if 6 gears aren't enough, how many gears do you need?

The V85 feels like it could use overdrive as well. The overall ratio seems low to me compared to my LeMans. 6th gear at 50 is no strain at all.

I don’t know, but I rarely see 6th on my V85?  Revs.

I think it can be a misconception to think that lowering the revs is necessarily somehow being “easier” on the engine.
If you are at 60 mph you are at a given rpm and a given throttle setting, no way around that or any debate required.
Now if you lower your rpm  and maintain your speed by selecting seventh gear, you are doing the same rate of work (power), so you therefore will have a higher throttle setting, (twist grip).
It is a function of torque (twist grip position) x rpm, if one is lower the other has to be higher, so you are “working” the engine just as hard and you will consequently need to grab a lower gear at some point where you would not have needed to with 6 gears.
However, I do take on board the reasoning that 6 is just fine, but spaced apart a bit more with 1st where it currently is, would be not too bad.
Also if you stack another gear set into the available space, they will need to be finer and not as robust.

The 2025 V85 motor is completely different from previous large blocks. Makes tons of power off idle. Softens up above 5k.
Power is 180 out from the old Tonti motors.

I feel the gears need spread out for an Adventure bike, the Stelvio would benefit from a lower 1st and taller 6th gear and the engine makes plenty of torque to do this. I imagine the Stelvio transmission close gear ratios came directly from the street bike version Mandello, Yamaha did the same with the Tenere 700 just using the MT700 drivetrain w/o widening the ratios which was a mistake.

And then, install the new taller 5th and 6th gear ratio on the Mandello.
