Some V700 questions

Have to admit it's been a minute since I've posted. I have this wonderful v700 that I've been riding for a few years, and I want to fix a couple of things on it to make sure that it stays under my 64 year-old butt for another 10 years at least.
1. From the looks of it, I think this is an Ambo tank and not a V700 one, just from the length -- although the lugs fit. I have a V700 gas cap that doesn't "really" fit on it -- I'd like to get the right one, I just don't know "what" to order, or who might have it?
2. I put a starter switch on it because the key-switch in the "start" position just never worked right. That said, whenever I push the starter button, it sometimes clicks, it sometimes gives me a "whuh" halft-spin, and other times it starts right up. Annoying as hell. Throughts?
3. The speedo is out of a Fiat, and for the life of me I have no idea how fast this thing is going (don't really care much, but hey, it would be nice). Where can I get a proper speedo for my ride?
4. It doesn't have an oil filter. I understand that there is a conversion available? Just want to know so I can do that once the winter starts to close in. I gotta do that and rebuild an Ariel Red Hunter Gearbox again.

Here's the ignition switch, button may work better w/new switch
https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_140&products_id=5279
The rest I have to think, I do have 3 V700's One rider almost every week, a 67 w/newer motor from a 68 or 69. 2 of them all apart & sheetmetal bare Speedo on my 67 has some droopy numbers but works optamisticly like the rest out there. I got a Bosch starter on my 67 that looks like an old bike not a resto.
You could come buy it all, then you'll have more 700 stuff than any other rider. Also NOS red tank, plus a few parts painted black. I was going to make a black one, bad chrome painted also.

There is a specific LoopFrame discussion forum. You might get more info there:
LoopFrames@motoguzzi.groups.io
There is no simple oil filter conversion that I know of.
Contact Moto Guzzi Classics or Harpers for a used speedo instrument.
Do you still have the original ignition switch. You might be able to disassemble and perfect that device rather than substitute. The switching and cranking issues are both likely related to old, tired wiring and connections. All of that can be improved rather than abandoned.

1. Yes, that is the later, larger tank. Most of the caps available new are reproductions and are good quality with exception of the "bar" that holds the cap shut. On original caps it's spring steel and on the reproductions it's mild steel. The mild steel bends and then the cap leaks. I use the "bar" from the original on the new cap to avoid this.
Check with Harper's and Paul Szostak (contact information is here:
https://www.mgnoc.com/staff_and_reps.html
) for an original. Here's a reproduction:
https://www.eurojamb.com/products/moto-guzzi-750-ambassador-850-eldorado-fuel-gas-cap
2. Big enough battery? Cables in good condition and large enough gauge? Good ground path? When was the starter last serviced? The key switch can be cleaned, information here:
https://www.thisoldtractor.com/moto_guzzi_loopframe_ignition_switch_rebuild.html
3. Check with Paul Szostak for a correct speedometer.
4. HMB sells this kit:

My slow turning barely making it Bosch starter was really happy after a rebuild at a local auto generator/alternator shop…

I’ve had 3 loops, including my current Ambo. I think the start up chuff is a result of where the engine stroke/compression was when you last turned it off. When that happens, it usually fires right up next time you hit the button. They all did it.

Probably too much resistance in the old ignition switch leading to Startus Interuptus (too much resistance between battery and the solenoid trigger terminal
Put a temporary 16 gauge wire about 3 ft long between the trigger terminal and touch other end on the battery positive. How does that spin over with a decent feed?
a typical Guzzi starter solenoid will draw 40-60 Amps, that's tough on electrical components, you may need to add a good start relay.
Consider a new Speedhut Speedometer
Like this one with a built in Tach
Somewhere on their site I saw a 0-80 MPH 0-8,000 revs, that should be about right for that old girl.
https://www.speedhut.com/categories/gauge-types/led-lighting/dual-gps-speedometers.html
If a GPS speedo is too rich for you how about a pulse input type, quite a bit cheaper but I don't see an option for Tach
https://www.speedhut.com/categories/gauge-types/led-lighting/speedometers/vss-speedometers.html
If you don't see what you want contact Speedhut, they are very obliging, nice people to deal with.
I put one of these on my first Guzzi, they need a pulse input adapter to replace the existing mechanical cable
The speedometers are very easy to calibrate, Go for the rear entry plug in program/odometer reset button rather than the one through the front Glass (More waterproof)
Speedhut will allow you to make it look like an original and will set the odometer to match. add a Guzzi logo etc.
