"Tier 1" Guzzi Shops

In preliminary planning for the National Brain Tumor Society memorial fundraiser ride next spring/summer, I'm gathering a list of the most knowledgeable Guzzi folks around the country.

I figure if I've got an emergency issue with the bike that I can't sort, I'll head for the nearest one, either under my own power or on a flatbed.

So far I've got:

• Hamlin, Bethel CT
• Harper's, Greenwood MO
• AF1, Austin TX
• Cadre, Cincinnati OH
• Antietam, Rohrersville MD
• MG Classics, Signal Hill CA

Who else would you guys suggest?

Looks like coverage in the SE, Northern Plains, and Rockies is pretty weak. (Might add The Motorcycle Shop in Watertown, based on the current South Dakota thread.)

Also wondering if there's anyone in the PNW, since Moto International closed?

Put Moto Richmond in Richmond (VA) on your list.  I bought my '23 V7 and '24 V100 Mandello from them, they also sell Triumphs, KTM, and Aprilias...

I just finished a 4,300 mile coast-to-coast ride on my 2023 V85 Guardia. But before heading out, I took her to Hamlin’s for an oil change (which I normally do on my own) and a detailed once-over. They combed through the bike from top to bottom, checking for leaks, weeps, and fastener tightness, seeing if there were any early warning signs of trouble (like a potentially loose valve bracket screw, which can apparently cause clatter).

And since they sell and service dozens of V85s, I trusted them to do a more thorough and detailed job than I ever could. I considered it a well-spent insurance policy before heading out for this:





FWIW, I had exactly ZERO problems—not a hiccup—despite flogging my V85 in 95+ degree weather for days on end. I did have one “user-generated issue” when I snapped one of the tin-foil keys off in the right pannier lock, fortunately in the unlocked position so I could still still access my stuff. BRING SPARE KEYS!

Of course, a well-prepped bike is no guarantee against road trip issues, but the ounce of prevention and peace of mind was worth it to me.

Great question, Frulk. I haven't decided yet.

Initially, I was going to do an IBA 50CC ride, straight across the country with minimal stops.

Now the idea has evolved into to a longer tour to significant sites in the life of the friend we lost. I'm mapping the sites (and Guzzi garages) now, but I'm not at the routing stage yet.

Looking at how the pins are grouping, it's more than likely going to be a "top-half four corners." So something like DC-ME-WA-Northern CA?? I'll connect those corners via the largest concentrations of pins, but won't hit them all. (Not sure about Canada.)

Ok…saw a couple of pins out this way. There’s a multi brand Guzzi dealer in Idaho Falls now. Fairly recent development. Never used them so can’t vouch for their technical competency.

I know that AF1 has a reputation for service and mechanical innovation due to their Aprilia racing involvement.  They have a good social during MotoGP weekend and have displayed some trick bikes.

OTOH, some big dealerships have good service and some don't.  There are some shops that specialize in service but can't afford a sales inventory.  MOTIV in OKLA is a service shop, good work but backed up.  MPH in Houston had a known reputation here for years, althouhg I've not dealt with them.    I thought Harper's specialized in parts support, I'm not familiar with service.

MotoZ in East Aurora, NY near Buffalo. Owner wrenched at Guzzi shop until about ten years ago when the owner passed, now sells Ducati's and repairs other Italian marques. Certainly knows the older Guzzis.

Seems like Guzzi likes to turn over their Tier 1 dealers about every 10 years.

I think they turn over because it is seriously hard work to make a living at any bike shop, much less a boutique brand like MG.  It turns young men into old men.  Passion can only take you so far.  I have the greatest admiration and gratitude for people that choose that life, better men than me.

I saw this thread and thought I would pipe up about a small private shop in Philadelphia that has been working on Moto Guzzi, BMW, etc., motorcycles for over 50 years. They did some work for me on an old BMW a few years back, and I look forward to partnering with them again on this MG when needed.

New guy here.... and a new MG owner. I recently purchased a 2022 MG V100 Mandello and am learning how to get along with it. I saw this thread and thought I would pipe up about a small private shop in Philadelphia that has been working on Moto Guzzi, BMW, etc., motorcycles for over 50 years. They did some work for me on an old BMW a few years back, and I look forward to partnering with them again on this MG when needed.

I use to buy parts from Franz pretty regularly back in the 90’s, sad loss when he passed away. Franz claimed he sold more new 1000S’s than any dealer in the USA, and I don’t doubt that claim. For some reason I didn’t think they were a current MG dealer.

Yeah, thats sorta my contingency plan when out & about.  However, I've been waiting 2 months for a tpms module, I'm glad it's not a show stopper where the bike is completely disabled.  Good luck with your fund raiser

I remember Razees from the 60's. I never visited but they had a great reputation. I patronized Ralph Strong Motorcycles in Waterford Ct, long gone. I really miss the old time mom and pop motorcycle dealerships. I have a small repair shop a stones throw from my house. Terrific reputation guys come from as afar away as Reno to have Andy work on their bikes.
