Bought a red Norge
« on: September 17, 2025, 01:55:27 PM »
I bought the red 2007 Norge that has been on e-Bay for a week.  It is in Oregon, so I am flying up there to drive it back to Orem on Monday.

I will be selling the silver one, but I need to fix the fork seals first.

First you look where it should be, then you look where it might be, then you look where it won't be, then you look where it mustn't be.  And when you find it you discover "that's where it should have been."

There always seems to be one or two beautiful white Norges for sale in northern New England that I keep pushing my friends toward.

Congrats! Red ones ARE the fastest. Saw a red one at last Sunday's IMOC rally with the same crash bars.

That was Matt Matteo of Anchorage, formerly from Oregon. The bike made it's way back down to another of the Oregon faithful.

I thought so, not familiar with that bike, but he just came back from L48 up the Alcan a few weeks ago. Thanx!

The original owner was in Alaska, it has been somewhat troubling because people keep asking me about Alaska

I drove it from Portland to Orem Monday and Tuesday.   I made the mistake of overdoing it the first day rather than split it into halves.  I got back to work by noon, but driving the last 160 miles to Burley in the cold and dark at 95mph was brutal.

I also made the mistake in Portland of asking my cell phone by voice  to take me to Hiway 84 toward The Dalles and it took me to 84th Avenue, Portland.  Took me a few U turns before I realized there was no freeway, and it lost me 45 minutes.

As for the bike, there were some nice surprises.   The higher windshield was worthwhile.  Driving up the gorge I decided to put my visor up to enhance the smells of nature, and it was already up, no no wind against my face.  Still got lots of bugs on my jacket, though.

Also, the bike has handlebar risers.  I was shocked that I never had any back muscle tiredness, which is an issue with the other bike and my BMW.

It doesn't have any enhancement of the MAP, whereas my other Norge has had the Beetle map from day one.   So I will compare the bikes to see if I can tell the difference.

It also has lowered pegs, which I didn't notice until I was bumping the center stand on mountain curves.

Fortunately I didn't have an opportunity to try out the crash bars, but they are a nice feature.

I really wish they made a GEN2 in that red.  LOVE those Stucchi (sp?) crash bars.

Glad you made it back safely.

My silver Norge has a tendency to roast my left calf when the weather is just right.   The red one roasts both calves.  I don't know what is going on there, maybe it has to to do with the crash bars.  Nice in the cold night air, though.

The red Norge has a loud buzzing with resonances at about 2500 and 3800 RPM.  Any ideas?

As a new owner, I'd run through it. New plugs (outer & Inner) Valve Adjustment and TB Balance. May also need to go over all the fasteners, crash bars, etc.

Good advice.  This is what I did when I first bought the silver one, and I know how to do it faster this time without breaking off the gas fitting, etc.

Also, grease everything…
I bumped an old Norge servicing thread.
