Recently got a 1000SP ('79) where the PO had rather drastically pruned all the dash wiring in order to run the bike naked and with one of those "cafe-style" minimal aluminum dashes. Even removed the wiring for the gauge backlights, which was annoying.
I'm kind of a geek for old-school instruments (especially clocks) so I got a replacement harness from Greg Bender and restored the old dash to its expansive, rubber-surround glory.
Problem is that now I have the requisite rat's nest of dash wires. (Exacerbated by the fact that my bike has a pre-circuit board dash) Not an issue when I'm using the fairing, but I'd like to be able to take the SP fairing off from time to time without having a bundle of wires visibly crammed in above the headlight.
Is the solution here to get a LeMans-style minimalist fairing for when I want to run the bike in non-touring mode? Did Guzzi ever make any kind of lower cover to hide the dash wiring for these big dashes (like on the T3/G5) or was it always covered up by the fairing?
