Help/advice needed
« on: September 29, 2025, 11:43:21 AM »
On September 9, I ordered a self canceling turn signal system and a brake modulator system from ST2 systems, not realizing they were a company located in Slovenia. I paid an extra $21 for expedited shipping in 3 to 5 days. The product never showed up One product totaled $160 the other $100.

Then… I was asked to pay $40.66 import duty on one and $31.66 import duty on another. I tried five different times over the course of Several weeks to contact the company with no response. I don’t feel that it’s right that I should have to pay an extra $72 import duty, which I never told about or agreed to. So I called my credit card company and started a cancellation process.

Has anyone else faced this situation? At this point, I’ve decided not to pay the import duty to the shipper and I guess it will either be sent back, held, or destroyed. Any suggestions as to any other options?

*reminder that we have a no politics policy here at Wildguzzi*

To answer the question; under the current tariff structure, yes, anything you order from a foreign country will likely have duties applied to it.  You will likely have to pay them to the carrier who is delivering your package.  Under previous regimes, there was an $800 minimum for import tariffs, so most of our motorcycle parts did not have the duties applied.  Most retailers have notes about this current tariff structure on their websites, but some may not.

Suggestions?; buy your parts from a US based retailer.  The tariffs will be baked into the price and you won't have separate duties to pay.

When you use the MG cycle site, they tell you & you can't see their site til you acknowledge this with the word tariff.
They don't have to tell you anything it's general knowledge it cost more. Been in the news for long time. BUY USA

Call your credit card company and cancel!  Basis is that you had no idea of the actual end-cost of the item, and would never have agreed to that price if it had been revealed.
You will win, but stick to your guns and persist.

Yes, the US is in for a rude awakening in regards to prices that other countries (like the EU) have been paying for decades.
Gone are the good old days of low prices for goods abroad...and welcome to the new US minimum wage of $15/hr, right?

Sorry, didn’t realize asking about a tariff charge was getting political. And I did not realize I was buying from a non-US distributor.

So I’d like to buy from the US. can anybody tell me where I can buy a self canceling turn signal system and a deaccelerating brake modulating system for my Moto Guzzi in the US?

BUY USA

Lots of parts I need are not available in the USA, and those that I can source domestically are far more expensive now. So much "winning". NOT.

ST2 Systems:

"If your issue requires an urgent response, please send us a text on WhatsApp +1 (332) 2327 487 and one of the technicians will be with you ASAP.
Please reserve this option for urgent matters. Thank you!"

I foolishly put off buying the oil pump for the Daytona from the Netherlands thinking this would all go away but now the price has gone up substantially. Buying American is not an option in this case. Same with buying parts for my Norton.

My reminder was for the posts that will follow yours, which the mods will have to delete.  It's not usually the first post on topics like this, but those joining in who want to get their $.02 worth added to the conversation.  I'm sure this thread will end up locked.  Don't be offended, it's just the Wild Guzzi Way.

This has happened to me several times over the years, unexpected import or duty fees. Is a pain...........

This is one of the reasons I use Paypal for all online commerce. Have to use it more than I would like, but have always gotten my $$ back when things go sideways whether CONUS or Global sourced part.  If it were me, I'd pay the fee and drive on, lesson learned.

I renewed my Irish passport.  Approved and posted.  It has been sitting in NYC postal since August 15.  No idea when it will reach California.  International shipping and import are currently chaotic.

Decided to take the hit on the import duty and pay it and avoid all the trouble. Will be much more careful next time!

I just purchased a '26 V7. I was told there was a $300 tariff. It wasn't listed on the purchase order so I assume it was included in the price.

Just yesterday I contacted a guy on eBay from Germany about a Guzzi product he had. He told me he couldn't ship to the US because DHL has temporarily suspended shipping here due to current trade policies.

UPS seems to be the only one that is still willing to ship from Germany.

FWIW: Lonelec from what I read has suspended shipping to the USA until the tariffs are sorted out. Think I read it here?

These are the US guys I always went to for canceling signal devices. Hook up as simple or fancy as you want. Anything from straight cancel to "parade flashers".
