Share your experience with universal windscreens/fairings

I am going to fit either a semi-large windshield (20 inches tall or so, maybe larger) like this Givi https://www.ebay.com/itm/383889856310, or a handlebar mounted 1/4-fairing like the Rifle of yesteryear https://magazine.cycleworld.com/article/1982/10/1/rifle-fairing

I have a V9 Roamer, but I suppose I can fit most universal items. What I am looking for, is no buffeting or added noise around the helmet, minimal turbulence in the abdomen area, and relief from headwinds.

I used to be 5'11", but have likely lost an inch. My torso is tall and my butt thick, so my eye-level is about the average of a person 6'3".

Looking for real life experience from those of you who have, or used to have, a shield fitted. Thanks in advance for sharing!

I just bought a Paraballum from Harpers for my 1400, they only have one of those left.  If they offer it for your model, it would be worth considering as it really does for me exactly what you said you wanted.  They were big in Beemerland for a long time.

Thanks for the tip! They only list a shield for the 1400 and the Griso, but I will send them an email and ask about the V9.

You'll need a tall windshield for that.  A quarter fairing won't do squat if those are your goals.  I have a V100 Mandello that has the adjustable windscreen, and installed a larger tinted windscreen.  With the stock and taller windscreen, raising it increased the buffeting around my helmet, so I leave it in the lowest position.  I'd definitely stick to the big and tall windshield for what you're looking for.

Just keep in mind if you buy anything that requires mounting to the headlight ears that the headlight mounts are offset, a little higher from center. A little annoying bit of info I discovered when I gave my Givi headlight-mounted windscreen to a friend, and realized hers was center-mounted.

That's what I liked about the Parabellum, waiting to hear if it will fit the V9, but unlikely since it is not listed on their site.

Best screen I have ever sat behind was a National Cycle Beaded Heavy Duty fitted to my Kawasaki Vulcan 800A. It gave protection from the top of my shins to the top of my helmet, and apart from some turbulence around my lap there was virtually windstill behind the screen. But the same model worked miserably on my Intruder 1400 and my Virago 750, because it could not be tilted back enough. This created a massive turbulence around my helmet that was almost deafening at speed. I managed to lay it back more on my 650 Dragstar, but failed to find a position where it did not cause noise.

The Windjammer V was also good, and the touring screen on my 650 Deauville as well.

I have a like new OEM Roamer touring screen looking for a home.  I have one on my Roamer, that I switch between it and small Dart.   I like it for long rides at high speed and when the temps get low.

I wound up with an extra unit, but I can’t see any reason I need to keep it if someone else can use it.    It’s very strong and mounts easily.  I still have the shipping box and I don’t think shipping would be too bad.   If you’re inclined $60 plus shipping will get it to you.

I use a small Givi screen on my Stelvio. Very adjustable so with experimentation you can hit a sweetspot.

On the NorgeGT I have a Skidmarx screen with Puig deflector to keep my pillion out of the wind.

Both work for me/ us
