Cali EV lights not working
« on: October 07, 2025, 01:31:54 PM »
Hi All, So I'm hoping someone may be able to give me some pointers on a problem with my 2001 California Ev1100.

The dipped beam, main beam, sidelight, tail light and instrument lights have stopped working.

Brake lights, indicators, horn, warning lights are all working, bike starts and runs ok.

All fuses are ok, and I have swapped relays around and still nothing

Is there anything obvious I should look for that commonly faults on these?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

You might want to check the ignition switch.

I'm thinking, but not looking up the schematic, that there is a relay that drops out the lights when you press the start button.
I would look again at the relays, AND keep in mind that there may be a FOUR pin relay in that batch of FIVE pin relays. You may be swapping in a four pin relay adding to the confusion.

Or not.... Just a wild guess.

And as Steve pointed out, the ignition switch is a weak point too.

Owning an EV, I'm always moving around the relays and fuses.  IIRC, the fuses are all the same.

Last year for preventative maintenance, I changed all the fuses since old ones looked worn and corroded, sprayed everything with Deoxit and contact cleaner.  For whatever reason, one circuit would not work.  I exchanged several of the new fuses but still dead.  Then as a last resort, I installed one of the old worn fuses and it worked fine.   I have no idea.....no ideas....whatsoever .  ...none

I have a couple of wiring diagrams for different. My 2002 stone diagram shows power running through f4 and then to the run/kill switch.  Measure voltage at f4 with everything including the fuse plugged in and ignition switch on.
