NGC...another new bike (SV650)
« on: December 16, 2025, 07:13:43 PM »
So I sold my '23 V7 Stone Special Edition several months ago, and replaced it with a '26 Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory.  I had my V7 replacement choices narrowed down to the Aprilia and this bike.  I got a sense that this might be the last year for the SV650, or pretty close to it, so I pulled the trigger and got a green '25 (matches my '24 Triumph Scrambler 400X).  It was discounted $1K at a local dealer, and I used the factory incentives (military rebate and 4.99 financing with zero down).  I've had it for about a week, already did the following mods:  bar-end mirrors, radiator guard, keyless gas cap, mid-pipe / muffler, and a tail tidy.  I have a V-Strom lower cowling on the way, along with frame sliders and a tank protector.  It's been too cold to be out riding, but I did manage to put about 6 miles on it last Saturday.  Just helps confirm that v-twins sound a LOT better than parallel twins!

The bikes in semi-hibernation in my storage unit.  The V100 has its own battery tender, but the Tuono and SV will have to share one:

Congrats!

SV650's are outstanding motorcycles.  I had three of the first generation, and often pondered getting a later generation with fuel injection.

Your bike looks worlds better than some of the color combinations I have seen on the newer SV650's.

Added the V-Strom lower cowling, and a tank pad.  Weather-permitting, going to put more miles on it tomorrow (Sun)...

Start-up and walk-around video I took the other day.  With the muffler change, the SV sounds better than my '26 Tuono with a full exhaust upgrade.  The v-twin has a throatier sound to it!

Didn’t realize they were still making these. Agree these and the Honda Hawks are great bikes. I raced my friend who had a SV650 on my 850 LeMans at our local dragstrip. He beat me to the line but my trap speed was 11mph faster as I roared past him just past the line. The close ratio gearbox is not ideal for drag racing with its tall first gear.

Was the Hawk something like the NT650, had a single-sided swingarm?  Those were cool bikes, definitely a cult bike for sure!

Yes, I was referring to the NT650. Similar to the SV650 and later a big following in battle of the twins racing.
