Ever heard of Benda motorcycles?

Some interesting ideas for motorcycles coming out of China now. Not sure I'd buy any of these yet, but these two from Benda (https://bendamoto.com/products/motorcycles/) are pretty interesting.

The Benda Boxer hybrid;  250cc engine: 62 horsepower and 74 lb-ft (100 Nm) of torque, and a claimed 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of just 3.7 seconds, 392 lb (178 kg),





The specs no doubt include the force from the electric motor. Don't know where the battery is or what charging times are.

They're not in the US or European market yet, but maybe they'll follow in the footsteps of CF Moto.

Benda's distributor, Keeway, is also a distributor for Benelli. Benda has European distribution based out of Austria. In the USA if you happen to be near a Keeway distributor, some of their models made it to the USA market earlier this year, such as the Chinchilla.

Do Chinese made motorcycles not carry the same 100% tariff in the US and Canada as Chinese-built cars?

We have two Chinese-built cars, wife's 2022 Buick Envision and my 2023 Polestar 2 Performance Pack ... both were imported before those tariffs went into effect...  I would absolutely buy another Chinese-built vehicle after my experience with these two.

Honestly they should be focusing on making engines for GP bikes. If they are getting 62 HP with 74 ft/lbs out of a 250cc twin imagine what if they has 750cc more to work with.

Just guessing, but that's likely the output of the gasoline engine and electric motor combined.

I'm a retired USAF transportation officer, and currently work in International Affairs / Foreign Military Sales for the USAF.  In no way, shape, or form will I buy a made in China vehicle, regardless of what the brand name is, or how much of a "bargain" it is.  The PRC is actively working at destabilizing places all over the world, in both overt (aggressive actions near Taiwan) and covert (Belt and Road Initiatives) ways, and I refuse to directly support those efforts.  If I ever see someone on a Chinese bike, my first thought will be, "must not have been able to afford the real thing".  Kinda like what I think of people who buy a V6 Camaro or Mustang.  To put it another way, if you were of riding age during WWII, would YOU have bought a German or Japanese motorcycle?  Same goes for a Chinese one today...

I think that's a large part of their business strategy. Harley-Davidson priced out many new riders, so they have an opportunity to join Royal Enfield in picking up some of the entry level affordable motorcycle market, especially for small cruisers. I can't speak to the quality of Benda, but Chinese built BYD electric cars are often regarded as being higher quality than American built Teslas, and at a lower cost. It carries over to *some* motorcycles as well. Honda's current XR150L has final assembly in Mexico so the bike is said to be made there, but the engine is built by Sundiro Honda in China. Thanks for a few improvements made by Sundiro's R&D, they're more bulletproof than the "real deal" XRs that were built in Japan.

I agree!   I really try very hard to avoid anything made in China although that is almost impossible but I put in an effort.  Also, I find it highly offensive that they buy an old out of bisness brand name and slap it on a Chinese product.  So if one wants to buy Chinese junk to save a few $$ go ahead but just remember that they are NOT our friends but our enemies...Let the flames begin...

I bought a CF Moto Ibex 450 / MT last March. So far it has been great (as in trouble free), and is a blast to ride.
The KTM influence is apparent throughout.

Reading comprehension must not be one of your strong suits.  I didn't say anything about Chinese PARTS, I said made in China motorcycle, or a Chinese-branded motorcycle.  I'm sure there are Chinese PARTS in our beloved Guzzis, but the bikes themselves are not MADE in China, neither are they a Chinese-BRANDED motorcycle.

IIRC, the Chevy Nova did not sell well in Spanish speaking countries because "No va" translates into Spanish as "No go."

I might settle for a bike named "An Anvil."

Yep.  The world is getting smaller every year.

Lots of OEM's are subcontracting to different manufacturing facilities all over the world.

Their are even selling their own designs.  Probably out of necessity, since the shelf life of an innovative design is shorter now than ever before.

Early production models of almost every new, innovative product are purchased by competitors of the OEM.

Much cheaper to buy, disassemble and measure, than to design from scratch.

It has always been like that.

From what I can find, these Benda models are clean sheet builds. Would be interested in any details to the contrary as I enjoy learning about the lineage (and influence) of different motorcycle designs.

Much like the Rolls-Royce 'Silver Shadow', was originally intended to be named 'Silver Mist' but Mist means Manure (or similar) in German so would have hindered sales there.

Possibly but, in English slang Bender is also a a derogatory term for homosexual.

No prejudices here but I think that might limit the appeal somewhat.
