2016 Eldo
« on: March 03, 2026, 09:43:36 PM »
A semi-local dealer has a 2016 Eldorado up for grabs with 80,000 kms on the clock, I see scratches on the ad but hardly enough to rate the discounted price as they have listed it as wholesale. I am trying to find a reason to not fly down the coast and take it for a test ride? For the life of me, my baby Breva has only 60,000 kms and other than minor work has been pretty good. Any suggestions on what's going to hit me once I shell out the peanuts to bring this one home? I have this suspicion that once I ride it, it is coming home.

Many Thanks
Stephen

What are they asking for it? where is it? That's only 50k miles. If it's been treated right, it's now likely a very dependable motorcycle.

It has some very expensive accessories on it: red valve covers, oem saddlebags/brackets, aftermarket luggage rack with back rest, CA Touring seat, oem windshield and oem driving lights, heated grips and highway bar for starters. Many of those items are NLA, or, if you do find them, they're very expensive.

I bought an all black 2016 Eldorado with 1492 miles (yes, 1492 miles) on it late last year that was very nicely equipped to include a full GTM exhaust system, GTM fueling system, Matris piggy back rear shocks (the oem shocks are quite cheap), Matris fork internals, oem Eldorado luggage rack (no backrest), oem windshield with driving lights and new Avon Cobra Chrome white wall tires. I paid $9k for it. I'm the 3rd owner. The first owner only put 300 miles on it and returned it to the dealer. He said he was too old and the bike was too heavy. The second owner paid $9,500 for the bike and had receipts for the $12k (yes $12k) he spent improving it. He had back and stability (vertigo) issues and was only able to put a bit over 1000 miles on it.

Then I added several hard to find oem accessories like heated grips, oem GPS mount, oem USB remote power, oem media device (don't bother with it), oem leather saddlebags, the oem leather trunk and an oem leather tank bag. The saddlebag brackets were the hardest item to find. They've been NLA for years now. Plus I added DPM/Moto Guzzi billet accessories like mirrors, hand levers, foot lever covers, front wheel trim and floorboards etc.

The GTM and Matris items transform the bike amazingly well. Literally, night and day difference.

Anyway, if your experience ends up anything like mine, you'll be madly in love with it instantly.

Pro Tip: when you change the engine oil and filter, only refill with 3.5 liters of oil. Do not fill to the Full mark on the engine dip stick.

There's some good information on this forum doing a search under 1400. There is a LOT of excellent technical information on the GuzziTech forum. Well worth the price of admission. IMHO, both forums are a must have for the 1400 owner.

HI Mark, I was hoping that you would have some ideas, they only want a touch under $4000.00 cdn plus the usual bs fees and taxes. It is just screaming to be ridden at that price.

Oh my, I'd buy it as a parts bike if it were near me. Look at it up close, test ride it and don't say I didn't warn you.
That test ride could easily cost your wallet their asking price.

Take pictures and share your experience here. You'll likely love it. Some of those models had a dodgy Demand sensor. That one is likely fine with that mileage on it. One way to keep the demand sensor healthy is to only refill the engine with 3.5 liters of oil. That way the oil mist won't get up into the demand sensor and cause an issue.

If you get it, you'll be stylin and profilin in no time. The Eldo 1400 gets attention and very positive comments every time you stop.

$4,000? That's a no brainier. I would still have my Audace if I had the physical strength to ride it. Wonderful bikes.

Unless there is something wrong with the bike, ie accident, damaged engine/trans, it sounds like a very good buy.

Seriously, if you’re not going to buy it, please let me know where it is.

Here's an old but nice article on the beautiful 2016 Moto Guzzi Eldorado:

It’s at International Motorsports in Langley, BC Canada. $4,000 CDN is about $2,930 USD at today’s exchange rate.

Sad how? Is it aesthetically a mess with scratches, dents and fading or is it sad in some other way?
Like it really just needs a new owner to love on it?

Being as I live in Burnaby (B.C and I should know better) , I might go have a look myself . That's only $200.00 more than I paid for my 2008 Vespa GTS250 last year  !

Hey Guys, it only took 2 months to go the 100kms to look at it! I was unfortunately in a hurry and could not ride it, rusted bolts, etched engine case and related parts, she's hurting. So I did the only responsible thing, I paid a deposit and will get back there in a week to pick it up, pending any disaster! Apparently while my wife was waiting in the vehicle she expected me to come out of the store with keys and papers, gotta love her!
Be back soon with her progress report!

I brought it home today, a good friend flew me down to a reasonably close airport. I was on the freeway by 1pm and totally smitten with her handling by 1:01.  After a couple of ferry rides and some of the best curves and sunshine, she is parked in the drive all tucked in for the night. A few updates on electronics will be first, a new phone holder and perhaps a newer power point, no multimedia as Mark suggested. Next I can see that the corrosion needs some attention, a little tender care and perhaps a drop of acid will make her just a little foxier. Thanks for the encouragement

So excited for you! Please take us along your journey with frequent posts, details and pictures. I wouldn’t worry about the demand sensor on your bike. The reason being at 50k kilometers, it’s either already been replaced or it’s proven itself reliable.

There’s an eBay seller in Italy that has treated me very well, VALER14.

Well , good for you , I in fact took it for a road-test and I found it brought back fond memories , until I went back outside 5 minutes after returning it and there was already an oil
puddle under it  . I didn't ask if anyone in service had done an oil change ( and of course over filled it) . Rethought the idea of going down another rabbit hole .

I get it, and yes, they did! No more leaks, I have taken her for a couple short runs after coming home and have had no drips, marks or spots. Of course, being new to a 1400, I left her in rain mode until just the other day.... I like it!

Hi mark. Where did you get that information about the oil level damaging the TPS sensor. If I had had that information when I had mine and after I had to replace it twice in 5k miles, I would maybe have kept mine. They are really great mile munching machines. Probably the best motorcycle motor I’ve ever had and I’ve had most all the popular brands over the past 50+ years of motorcycling.

I would run my Audace at 85 out in the middle of Nevada just eating up the miles. Any faster which it would do was too tiring hanging on against the wind blast. That bike would sure run.

GuzziTech. At this point I think I’ve read each and every post under their 1400 section. Many threads I’ve read multiple times. Their collective advice is the engine oil level should be between the Low mark and halfway to Full mark.

They also advise to use no more than 3 liters of oil on an oil and filter change. Including pre filling the oil filter.

Just about everyone reads the owners manual and/or the service manual where it says engine oil capacity is 4 liters. So, they add 4 liters and oil pools in the air filter. and oil puddles under the bike as well. Especially if the plug is missing from the airbox drain tube. Their theory is that oil mist can then foul the demand sensor.

The entire oil capacity on a new bike at the factory was 4 liters. That includes the oil lines as well as the oil radiator. None of which empties out through the engine oil drain plug.

The Demand Sensor I bought came in last week. I sincerely hope it can stay on my parts shelf.

I’ve only been able to put about 175 miles on it after clearing out the stored fault codes.

It ran perfectly, absolutely perfectly. But, yours and Kevin’s demand sensor issues are in the back of my head.

Was there a bad batch of demand sensors? Very likely. I ‘think’ I read there was a service bulletin about it. Did/does overfilling the engine oil lead to demand sensor issues? Again, very likely. It’s an electric system that should remain moisture free. Not ingest oil mist through it.
