1975 850T clutch cable length
« on: March 29, 2026, 09:29:36 AM »
Could anyone tell me a part # for the longest 858T clutch cable ?   I was told there were 3 differnt lengths . I belive my cable is just a bit too short and things would work better with less sharp curves .   Just asking.

Could be you have it routed wrong which would make it not long enough, try rerouting it 1st.

The 850-T has a unique clutch cable (1709 3002) with detachable upper barrel end, there was only ever one length as far as I know. The complete clutch lever assembly is unique to that model as well. If you want a longer cable, find the more common Convert/T3/G/SP lever assembly and a longer cable from one of those models as well.

Alternatively, have a custom cable made (Barnett can do this) to work with the original clutch lever assembly.

Thank you , I must have had bad information. I will search for lengths .,  And try and find something jus a few inches longer.  Also it might be worn . I might install my spare and see if its better.   The snow is almost all gone . So theres that.

As I wrote previously, the 850-T cable is different than any other Guzzi cable, in that it has a detachable barrel at the hand lever end.

It's possible that a T3 cable could be used >if< the barrel at the hand lever end was removed. MG Cycle lists lengths for some of their cables. https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=135_136&products_id=981

I was getting cables and they had a sleeve that came on the barrel you could remove, depending on the lever. Can't remember for what models & may have been from Barnett.

Thank you once agan,  The bike is going to some out of retirement , its been parked for a few years and i remember the clutch was sort of difficult to use. One other thing, the handlebars are the ''swan neck clipons ''  Ive never adjusted them as they alwase were ok to me . No big deal really.

I dident realize MG cycle had measurments on there cables .  So good  .    So a fresh lawn mower battery and Im ready.  Woodrow
