Musings.....
« on: April 11, 2026, 09:39:05 PM »
Currently on the bullet train in Japan. I guess travelling at high speeds has me thinking in high gear.

As many know, I resisted the V85 for years because I did not like the high front fender and dual headlights. I will admit they have grown on me, and I can live with it BUT......

I'm wondering about grabbing a Caponard front fender, a 2023 or newer V7 front headlight and mounting it with spacers to the current fixed mount, or removing the headlight mount/frame and getting the whole setup from the v7 Sport. I'm guessing simpler would just to use a tube spacer and keep the frame and gauge mount unmolested. I'm going to assume the the headlight units are plugged and play between the two bikes?

I've seen what others (Huzo) have done, and don't like the dual headlight look without the duckbill fender. If I did this, I'd have to go with a traditional round HL and would likely paint the low.fender to match the tank and side covers.

OANN, we have been in Japan for 5 days, and not a single motorcycle sighting yet. Hoping to get to the Yamaha factory and museum, but we are here mainly to track down my wife's relatives. Ok, back to drinking in 150mph sights. BTW, the sparkplugs on these bullet trains and micro cars are no joke ....

I don’t have any plans to alter the headlight, but this is next I reckon.

Of course this image is AI generated. In reality, there would still be some black accents like inlet tract covers, spark plug lead covers and minor other points.
The crash bars have been removed already.

Beautiful!!!

Givi used to make a small bikini round headlight fairing (or maybe cowl is a more accurate term) that was quite simple & IMO, attractive.

The Yamaha RZ350 headlight cowl replicas might look good on that bike also.

If you get a chance, please ask the conductor what type of engine oil and gear oil they use on the bullet trains.  Hoppe's Number 9 maybe?

If the train is going 150mph pulling multiple tons of railway cars, it should be the best you can get for a motorcycle....

I would go with this, it’s longer than the Aprilia design, keeps the crap off much better.

In the interest of research, can someone take a pic of the Newer 2023 on Headlight connector plug? I want to compare it with the V85 when I get back. I'm not going to start cutting wires if I do this, has to be plug and play.

Thinking about it, I'll likely keep the current headlight/screen/dash mount and use a Dremel to modify the lower edge of the windscreen to accommodate a single round headlight.

This would be a future project, maybe next winter. I haven't even done the first service yet. LOL
