Puzzling observation about "IL Campout" post
« on: May 08, 2026, 05:00:16 PM »
On April 14, I posted a thread regarding the up coming IL Moto Guzzi Camp Out in mid May.  There have been a total of 3 replies to it, 2 of which were me giving it a bump.  The interesting part is that aside from those 3 replies, as of this moment there are over thirtytwo hundred views!

I'm scratching my near bald head, wondering how to interpret those numbers?
Well over 3000 views by members, yet only 1 guy (GuzziSteve, thanks brother) other than me has commented.  I imagine a couple hundred of those 3200 plus views might be the same people revisiting, although I'm not sure why, as they can see how many comments without opening the thread. But assuming I'm not too far off, that's 3000 views, that equaled Zero comments.  I know a number of folks are coming, but it's interesting me that thousands of members would bother to look into the thread and have absolutely nothing to say about it.

I'm not complaining or whining, I'm just making what I think is an interesting sociological observation about human behavior.    I don't know didly about internet algorithms or statistics, but I do find it fascinating that so many took the time to look, but only 1 person in over 3200 had anything to say.

Bots!  :violent1:

Also, I read the MG UK forum and Speed 400 forum but haven't registered on either, so no comments from me, though plenty of views (& thoughts).

Well, I haven't looked since I posted & was going to bump it like I did Bob's but knew you would get it.  Wouldn't that be nice if 3000 Guzzi's showed up!!  Weird stuff for sure.

Chad,

So now you have a second thread about the camp out, and with less than fifty views, there are more comments than the original thread.
What sociological observation does this portend?

I saw it and would have possibly planned to attend if I'd known about it sooner. Ended up with plans to ride out to IL in June instead though.
Enjoy the campout 🏕️

Maybe your post had all the information anyone needed to know listed in a way that it warranted no questions. I've noticed a trend in social media type communications. If person A read an event announcement, all the information was there, and they were planning on going anyway, they more often than not won't comment just for the sake of commenting. They'll just show up, kind of unannounced.

That sounds like a viable explanation.

Chad, The Illinois rally was one of my favorites. I attended my first one in 1985 but didn't return until a couple of years later, 87 or 88. I started bringing JP there when he was 4, I think the last one we attended, he rode his own bike. Now our weekend adventures are spent at the race track. We looked forward to it all winter. As far as attendance, most of us "old timers" were the young guns back then. Now, at least for me, my sleeping in a tent days are behind me. And thinking about the guys and gals that attended in the 80s, 90s and aughts, many of them have passed or stopped riding. It's an unfortunate reality. It seems that for the new motorcyclist, roughing it is a Holiday Inn. I am sorry to see that culture disappearing but, life goes on. Keep it up please, I'll see you down the road!
