Interesting V85 development
« on: August 24, 2026, 09:30:04 AM »
In my search for a (proper) single headlight on the V85 and removal of the beak, I came across this on the Facebook V85 page. A guy in Italy makes a relocation bracket for the Instrument Cluster and mounts a single headlight unit. Claims no CANBUS or dash errors.

Not sure I want to remove the front cluster and windscreen mount, but things are looking up in this potential line of exploration. I'd be looking to mount a single headlight and have a Caponard front fender painted to match the tank colors.

The V85TT would look nice with a single headlight and no beak.

Yes, following along
I will say that removing the front fender looks so much better.
Let us know if he wishes to fashion an exhaust pipe for a low exhaust as well…

That bit isn’t too hard, an oval section muffler is a better choice than round.

That's the goal.  One thing I won't do is cut the Bikes Harness. My first Golden Rule with any mod, especially on a newer bike is not to do anything that cuts away or removes something of the bike or can't be removed.  I'm tapped out budget wise on the V85 for the year, but will keep building data and parts sources.  I envision keeping the front frame mounted trellis thing for the windscreen, turn signals, gauge and headlight mount, and then aluminum spacers to bridge the gap between the subframe//trellis and the single headlight bucket. If I can go with a standard bucket and drop in LED without messing up the dash coding and triggering warning lights, I'll gladly lose the Eagle headlight from the V7/9, unless I can find a good deal on fleabay. Those things are ridiculously expensive.

THe single headlight on the PIC above really makes the bike look good, even with the beak.

Have you a template for the pipe that would allow for a low exhaust?
I guess the bracket hangs off the passenger foot peg bracket for the muffler?

Thanks Huzo

I get the beak. Mine went away for a lower fender. It was raised 35mm and match painted blue like on the tank. I'm going to fill in the space above the fender with a 3'-4' vertical plate with driving lights mounted there.

Interested in a lower exhaust pipe below the left saddle box location. That and a new exhaust system is in the works now.

I don't have a problem with the headlight or dash so they'll stay.

One of those 9" diameter off-road racing headlights would look BAD!  I mean good.

Probably wise not to even look at the cost....

I haven't had time to dive deep in this, but it looks like a basic bucket and trim ring with a drop in LED unit May fit the bill perfectly.

I already have the drop-in LED unit for when I bought two for my convert. It even has an LED Halo that could be switched or connected to the DRL.

Definitely need to do more research on it. And I would far prefer to use one of the current V7 or v9 headlights with the LED eagle across the center but knew they are pretty pricey. I'm going to start looking on eBay to see if I can find something reasonably priced.

I still have the wooden template from which I made the steel patterns.
Then came the mandrel bent headers.

Having just picked up a  V85TT on Sat, out of curiosity, why do you want less light on your bike? With so many bad drivers already on the road and people on cell phones, will 1 light be bright enough?

Given that all my other bikes save the Norge are single traditional lighting I'm not concerned about it. Besides, Modern LED bulbs and accessory lights are plenty visible.

It's more aesthetics and an attempt to get away from the ADV beak.

It's grown on me, but I really don't like the look of the dual headlights without the beak. I would like to keep the Eagle DRL, but only if I can find one for a reasonable price.

Bulldog9 is a big fan of the neon fluorescent under the bike LED type lights.

They provide all the visibility one needs.

Especially in the eye of some observers.....

I see so not easily replicable since it’s not on paper, no worries

The top bend is 110 mm PCD
The bottom is 90 mm PCD and the bend is 114 degrees.
Pipe diameter is 40 mm.
these are the patterns.

You could scan this shot.

Enlarge it to full size and then transfer it to a pattern.

Why not start with a take off exhaust from a V7/9 850? Will likely have to fabricate Exhaust Hangers, but should be doable.  Did you want to stay 2-1 like the V85, or 2-2 like a V7/9?

If going 2-1, I bet a simple mid pipe between Cat/Collector to the Exhaust Can and accompanying hanger from the rear passenger footpeg would be all you need. Easy enough to fabricate from Aluminum stock.

LOL, that was a ONE TIME error in judgement when I allowed some of my soldiers to make 'enhancements'

I researched the "TRON" style motorcycle wheel lights, which as you undoubtedly know, are as cool as it gets!!!

$700 bucks per wheel!!!  Too rich for my blood! (Moto Guzzi content!)

Besides, they would only attract the high maintenance chicks!!  Not my cup of tea!

I'm going to look into the battery powered Christmas light strings next.

Dollar General should have them in stock soon......

I'll keep you posted!

Were it me, I'd take the bike to a known reputable muffler shop that can custom bend and cut exhaust pipes, do a mockup of the new muffler/can in the new location and have them custom cut and bend a new midpipe from the cat outlet to the new pipe. They can flare and cut the pipe as needed. Even a custom motorcycle ship should be able to do this easily.
