Volt Meter
« on: October 12, 2026, 12:04:40 PM »
I'm looking for a small digital volt meter and know there has been some discussion in the recent past but can't find it. What can you recommend?

Good question! I need a small, inexpensive meter for the G5.

Are the stock ones on the SPs accurate?

I have that model listed in the affiliate page on the website at https://wildguzzi.com/Products/products.htm#Battery_Related

If you buy it from this page, the website gets a little kickback.

Thanks,

I’ve been using this one for 2 years on the BMW R80 rig. Doubles as a multi-USB port:

Not sure why the polarity is switched on the male-female ends, making you have to use that male-female converter that’s included.

Hi Luap, I didn't know you added this.  Did I miss the memo?
It should be more visible. I never read the page trailer, but I see the link now.  Make it flashing, bigger font...
Great idea.  Perfect timing for season gifts.

I second this one! I have mine connected to switched power (the old fuel solenoid/shut off plug on my Bassa). They are not super accurate, but enough to monitor a trend and hopefully catch something if voltage starts to drop precipitously.

Installed mine on left hand side near ABS Button on 07 Norge directly to the battery. especally notice mine has an on/off button even as it is wired directly to battery.  Available on Amazon.

Another vote for the small USB-style meters. One thing worth knowing for the G5 is to wire it to a switched circuit rather than straight to the battery. Even a tiny meter will slowly drain the battery if it's always powered, and the G5 doesn't have much margin if it sits for a while.

Also, don't treat the reading as gospel. These cheap ones can be off by a tenth or two. What matters is the trend: roughly 12.5V resting, 13.5 to 14.5 when running, and if it starts sagging at idle you've got a charging issue to look into.

For mounting, a small one tucked near the headlight or on the bar clamp is easy on that bike.

I'm used to volt meters being off a bit. I rode airheads a lot of years and they're always off - if for no other reason than they're connected somewhere other than the battery.

I've read that the cheap chinese meters can read a volt high, which isn't horrible, but I'd rather be only a tenth or two.

A question I have about the big square one Dirk posted, since the clamp is plastic I'm a little concerned it'll hold up for any length of time.

I think I like the one SemperVee posted the best since it's pretty small. But I'd need to make a mount for it since I don't have a fairing to put it in. And yes, it's a good idea turning it off with the ignition - I'm used to clocks draining a battery and they don't draw much current either.
