It was a disappointing day yesterday. I took the honey from my hives. Unfortunately, the last three weeks have been wet more often than dry, and the bees have stayed at home partying and eating my share. I've ended up with about two thirds of what I was expecting.

Eclectic couple of days. On Sunday morning I took the F650 out for a dirt-road loop around Electric Mountain, into cattle country over 9000 feet. Dodged cows and cowboys where the road twists through the woods, and caught stunning views going across the meadows on the way out.

In the afternoon, after a year of moving and renovation projects, I finally replaced the cleaned-up oil pump in the TR6R. Started on the second kick and I rode it around town just to enjoy it again.

And this morning Gail and I rode the Mille over McClure Pass for lunch in Marble. Fabulous ride. We're blessed!

Exercised  the stupid bike w/no tach, it has no relays either. No starter button or turn signals. Well, batt said 10.48 V so I had to wait.
Need to ride it more, been 90 days or more this time. I call it  Soupcan,  and what color is a Campbell's  soupcan?  That's what a V7 looks like to me.

My day started fantastically!!

Opened the back door to let the dog out and stepped out on the the patio

I immediately found myself being buzzed by a dozen or so bats all rolling, looping and pulling high G turns  :thumb:

Bats are a protected species over here and there is a colony in the roof of house next door and I guess I timed it just as they were all coming home after a night out

The day can't go down hill after that start!

that's hysterical! I've been planning a bat house for the cabin, Chuck. That's a blurry pic, but it looks like it may be some sorta container other  than wood? Another Stottlemyre invention?

I NEED to build a bat house ... we finally sealed up the house against them living in the attic, and discouraged them from living behind the shutters, but there's 60 of them living in the rafters above my shop ceiling, and I don't even want to THINK about how much guano is up there now.

Once I get the bat house built and mounted on a pole at the edge of the woods near the back of the shop, I've already got the peppermint oil to run them out of the shop with .... they apparently hate the smell of it and it doesn't hurt them ....

this looks a little like work, but outta do.

http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/outdoors/gardening/how-to-build-a-bat-house

Looks good, but "biscuit cutter" and "miter"-type joinery?   I didn't even do that level of quality for my OWN storage sheds, I'll be durned if I'm going to be mitering and dadoing and mortising for a bunch of bats.   With cedar, no less ...

Nope, I've got some decent scrap lumber left over from past projects, some screws, and a handsaw.   They can live in the same sort of house I do, or find someone else to leave their guano with.

Actually, we like having bats around - they keep us fairly bug-free here.   No swarms of mosquitos and gnats.   I won't run them out of the shop building with peppermint until I've got a place for them to go ....

Just had four days at our son's power steering and wheel alignment business as the grandson was off work crook. Being retired and all it is a bit tough getting up at sparrow fart to go to work.  Unpaid of course (I expect cups of tea at very regular intervals) but it is always enjoyable working alongside him.

I suppose I should do something today but I have so much to do I don't know what do do first, so I think I will prevaricate.

Thanks for asking.

Mixed day yesterday.

Called U-Haul for a trailer and was advised the unit I needed was available at 7:AM in Pt Townsend, 25 miles and a ferry ride away.  Or I could get one locally at 9:AM and pay the extra fare to tow it across on the ferry.  I chose the former.  Got to the U-Haul office and discovered no such trailer on site, and Bremerton was the closest available on the peninsula.  I'd borrowed the tow rig and needed to have it back, so I had to abort and return.

Changed the pickup point to local and got the trailer.  Set the contract, my wallet, and tablet/phone on the fender for the walk-around, and forgot to pick them up again.  So due to U-Haul's mistake, I'm out two ferry fares, a crapload of gas, my wallet with ~$1k in cash (and credit card, bona-fides, etc) and my tablet/phone with all my contacts, gps nav, and other data.

I discovered the items were lost after I was on board the ferry.  Called the U-Haul -- no joy.  A little while later the sheriff called saying the wallet had been turned in.  It was short about $60, but all else was intact.  Recovered that late last night.  Tablet still missing.  I'm in a real money crunch due to not getting paid on a job, so I can't replace the phone.  Posted fliers and asked folks everywhere in the vicinity if they'd seen it.  Calling the phone sends me straight to voice mail -- no rings.  Makes me think someone has it and ejected the chip.

I'm not going to tell you why I needed a U-Haul.

Sounds like a rough day ... I understand it all (and not worried about why the U-haul), but this part sounds like something from The Twilight Zone.

What possible scenario could result in a wallet with $1,000 in it being lost, and then being turned in with $940 still in it?    What sort of conscience lets someone steal $60 and return the rest?

Maybe an employee of the Social Security system gone bad?

I had $60 walking money in the main pocket and the rest in a zipper pocket.  I'm thinking they helped themselves to the small bills as their reward for turning the wallet in.  They could have done it the other way, and I think they implied that by folding the 100's and returning them to the pocket.  I never fold my money.  I probably would have given them the 20's in thanks, so I don't begrudge the shortage.  I am thankful that they did the right thing.

That's as likely a scenario as any, I suppose.   Just reflects a strange sort of morality.   The second-best kind of morality out of many different kinds, in your case ....

Or maybe they were "dispensing justice".   "If this guy is going to leave this kind of money laying around, it should hurt a little anyhow ...!"

Anyway, glad you got it back.   Especially the plastic; that stuff can take forever to replace, and is a huge hassle ....

Today I rode my Aprilia Scarabeo 500GT scooter down to town (14 miles) on Rte. 66 in Az. and had 2 Harley riders come up and pass me while I was doing 65 mph.  No big deal except both bikes had Florida license plates.   In traffic I caught up and as we stopped together I asked 1 of them did they really ride their bikes all the way from Florida?  The white bearded rider said he didn't speak very good English so I couldn't find out where they started from, but I did find out they had rented their Harleys and he was from Argentina!  We meet the darndest people on Rte. 66 where we live.

Last May Rodekyll and I met a gal from New Zealand while Rk was here on her Suzuki 650 V twin.  She had started her trip across the USA in Seattle solo.
