Well the wife had to work today so I thought I would service her 10 v7c, just a oil and filter change as everything else is up to date, so I button it all up and hit the starter to make sure of no leaks and nothing but clicks, doh :violent I guess it's time to change her 4 year old battery.

Click it a few times to make sure it is not startus Interuptis. Better still, do a battery check with a voltmeter to see that it actually is the battery.

Went for a ride today. Mt Moriac to Ballarat to Creswick where Huzo lives but didn't see him, and then on to Daylesford and Ballan and back home. I had the twisty bits coming into Daylesford to myself which was a real plus. Sunny with a few clouds and a top of around 35 celsius.
Hey Huzo, is that your place on the right as you come in from Ballarat with all the gaudy Christmas crap on it? I stopped at cafe 56 and had brekky there at about 11.45. Nice place.

Well yesterday and today were 'Wildlife Rescue' days.

YesterdY I went for my customary morning strop on the Griso and while piling it on a bit come round a corner and there's an echidna bumbling across the road. Now echidna's are monotremes, egg laying mammals, and they don't move fast. They sort of shuffle like characters out of a Dickens novel. Their one means of protection is to grab the ground and stick out their spines!

Well I hit the picks, parked the bike and spent five minutes doing the 'Anteater Polka' with the stupid little beast. Couldn't pick it up, it's spines went straight through my summer gloves. He could hang on tight even to the Tarmac so I couldn't boot him off the road so I just had to stand there windmilling my arms to stop traffic, (A Fluoro green helmet helps here!) while he made his own, stow, way to the verge.

Nice thing was that not only did everybody stop but I got lots of  :thumb: from the people I'd inconvenienced. That gave me a boost as I'm so used to people being impatient assholes who don't GAF about anyone or anything but themselves.

Then today on the way back from Jude's work Christmas lunch we peeled off around a corner and there was a big Bluetongue lizard getting all feisty in the middle of the road. Once again brake to a halt and stick the hazard lights on and Jude hops off and tries to shoo him off the road. He wasn't having a bar of it! Up on his stubby little legs, hissing, tongue out, what a bullshit artist! Jude grabbed him and walked him off a few metres into the scrub where he continued to hiss and gasconade until we'd got back in the car and pulled away. Wish I'd had time to get the camera out. Jude doing the 'Bluetongue two-step' was hilarious to see

 Thanks for that Pete

Couple of years back on the return trip from Cedar Vale I had a similar encounter with a large tortoise . Big ol' boy (or girl , didn't look ) crossing the road at what was for him surely a breakneck pace . Carload full of young folks stopped on the shoulder with intentions of assisting the critter , which of course sends it into full hunker down mode . Here we are , all waving our arms , looking not unlike a group of primates trying to make sense of our first encounter with an alien being . Finally I just pick the 20 lb armored vehicle with legs up and transport him to a point several yards off the road in the direction he seemed to be traveling . Not even a word of gratitude emanated from him , although the young folks gave me a  :thumb:

I've been told by my landlord that echidnas have a migratory path through his property and I nearly ran one over as I was passing a car just near the entrance to the property. He also told me that red bellied black snakes have a migratory path that goes under his house. I haven't seen any of those and I'm glad as they are quite poisonous.

Got invited to go for a group ride with my son's group of friends called the Thirsty Thursday :undecided: group.

About 9 bikes showed up, son's 1200 Sporty being the only Hardly, the rest beeing Japanese whizzbangs with an Aprillia thrown in. Hovering around 35 deg. Did the Ashley Gorge ride with a stop at Oxford for refreshments.

Love the ride but cruising Guzzimodo at 85-100mph is probably pushing the wee beast a bit too hard. Also, don't really want to involve P.C. Plod so I think I will leave the next one to them. Bike never missed a beat though. :thumb:

Just filled up before going for a ride to Akaroa with my mate who recently a Breva the same as mine, but 2006. On that trip that was done at  fairly quick speeds the Breva returned 58.34 miles per Imperial gallon, which translates to 48.58 mp US gallon. Thought it would have been a lot worse than that. :thumb:

In Sitka there is a run of pink salmon (Humpies) that goes up a culvert under the True-Value.  You'd think that wouldn't be sustainable, but they were running up the culvert there long before I lived there.

Nice weather here today. One by one, I pulled the bikes out of the garage, checked the tires and lit the fires. They are all great fun in their own way. But the G-5 stole the show. Have not rode one for years. That beast has presence! I'm certain that one day it will piss me off beyond measure, but today, it sang and strutted. Happy Camper.

Just about finished re-plumbing our entire 1928 house by replacing all of the original galvanized pipes with Pex. If it wasn’t for having to crawl around underneath this off grade house with a historical collection of mice, opossum, rat etc. feces it wouldn’t have been too bad of an experience.

And now we 40+ pounds of pressure instead of the barely 30lbs.

My wife surprised me today with an early Christmas gift, an Old Town Square Stern Canoe.  It is rated up to a 4hp motor.  I am excited.  Been fooling around in boats for years and there are a lot of river and back bay opportunities around here.  Hunting for a good outboard to mount on it now.

During the day, when my hubby is at work and the kids are in school, I've been slowly cleaning the garages.  Today our youngest was sporting a high-ish fever so I handed her a walkie-talkie and headed for the garage to unbury Turtle.  That's my hub's '69 VW 'vert, that for years has been used as a storage bin for all manner of unsavoury crap.  After a few hours, it became clear that yes, indeed a car has been hiding in our garage masquerading as a junk pile.

When done, I was too afraid to look under the dust cover, I'm positive more $#!+ is hidden there.  At least he has the option to work on it if he wants to without the bother of the mound on top.

Now, if a month + goes by and he hasn't shown it any interest, or our VW fanatic of a neighbour hasn't started sneaking over to get his fix, I'm going to look into having a shop pick it up, and start a full resto.  I would love to have it looking/sounding purrrrdy by spring for Sunday drives.  Besides, I sold my bugs 15 years ago so he could keep his, and I'm tired of waiting to hear that happy chirp issuing from the garage.

Great.  I'd rather have a root canal then drive the interstate again today but bit the bullet and drove yuck to Guzzi tech for new Continental Sport Attacks for the Skorpion.  Todd was gracious as always,  and tried to charge me less than the job was worth.
A nice visit.

I gave Heather a gift voucher for Peter Stevens bike shop here in Geelong so we went there yesterday for a quick squizz. While we were there we had a look at the V7 111 Stone, Special, Anniversario and Racer. The Guzzi salesman came over and had a chat with us and then told us that the V7 Special, Anniversario and Racer (but not the Stone) had the heads and barrels from the V9 making them an 850 cc bike. I told him that as far as I was aware the capacity of the V7 hadn't been increased, but he was adamant that it had. No wonder Pete Roper calls them what he does.
