My dad died a week ago, peacefully and painlessly, at home, at age 95. He had a grand life filled with love. This was a long time coming and we had plenty of time to say goodbye -- I do believe I got most of the mourning out of my system ahead of time. Big issue is helping my step-mom to cope. Also drove the van up to Whitefish (1000 miles door-to-door) to visit my daughter who has the perfect life now.

The bikes have been good therapy. I've been riding the Triumph daily, finishing out the sorting process (the BMW and Mille are pretty much perfect). Jetting changes, fiddling with oil flow and general clean-up. And I now have everything in hand to reassemble the T.

Knowing it is coming is one thing. Accepting it when it happens is quite another. Thanks for posting, I sure miss my Dad, gone seventeen years now, Aug 15th

More details required.   If something's "the dog's bollocks", that's apparently a GOOD thing even though they're nasty and stinky.

I'm not sure about "shithouse".   "Shit hot!" is good .... ?

Did some mapping on a Stelvio, then swapped bikes again. I certainly do not want to clean any carbs. I'm sure glad I don't own newer bikes w/all those glitches, 700 is a dreamcycle.

As a volunteer lifeguard we help the guards in a variety of ways, including being extra sets of eyes and ears, crowd control, finding lost kids and regularly checking in as we walk the beaches.

As the season is ending, the guards will be returning to school, some will be traveling overseas to their own countries and a few permanent guards will stay on duty over the fall and winter.

The volunteers got together for our annual "Feed the Guards" brunch.  85 guards. Eight quiches, 8 dozen slider buns, 20 pounds of ham, 7 pounds of cheese, 10 pounds of potatoes salad, a tub of Texas Caviar, chips, pot of coffee, 5 trays of brownies, drinks and 8 loafs of breakfast breads resulted in a lot of happy folks.

The bike is off the road for four months over winter, so with about three weeks to go I decided to drain the gearbox oil and check what it looked like. The nut on the mainshaft had decided to come loose on a previous ride and a whine had developed. I had taken the box out, Steamdriven and myself had checked and could see where a bit of alloy had been ground off so we locked everything up , crossed fingers and threw it back together. It still whined, but not as badly.

Sadly, yesterdays oil change came out grey, a little bit of metal on the magnet but the oil was badly discoloured. Poop bum dunnycan.  Major gearbox stripdown coming up (again).  The pleasing thing was that in warming up the oil a bit I was able to use my new fancy adjustable, extendable folding levers for the first time and they feel GREAT! :thumb: Colour coordinated for the bike too.

My mate has a Breva the same as mine but three years later and with lower mileage, and he wants to come and watch the stripdown so he gets to know the little quirks of the Guzzi.  How to lube the splines will be lesson #1.

You would think I would know better. My Pulsar watch battery watch died and I was in town so stopped at Wally World to have the battery replaced. After an hour wait they may have ruined the watch. I now have it in pieces in a little baggy. They are are going to see if they can get parts to fix it. Of course no major manager there on a Sunday.

Rescued a guy who wrecked his three day old Aprilla.  Panic stop at stop light.  His wife was in front of him.  I was behind him.  Got him to
mechanic shop across street.  Ran home for my trailer while mechanics bandaged his knee.  His knee gave out while we were loading bike on trailer.  Bike down again additional small tear on seat.  Some scratches on bodywork, broken mirror and shift lever from original wreck.  Got him and bike home.  Hope he has a better day tomorrow.

Celebrated 70 years on the planet on Tuesday -- the biblical sell-by date, three score and ten. Got to watch the harvest moon rise among a few local friends.

My daughter, an artist and graphic designer, sent these drawings:

The days are getting better, last year and a half have been tough with family and health stuff.  I am counting down - 5 1/2 months to retirement date.  Looking forward to having the time to ride where and when I feel like it.

Muzz,
I have heard of V11 bikes taking water into the gear box through the breather/vent.  Cure was a piece of tubing to relocated the vent cap out of the way of rainwater.

Never been a problem Jim, and I have certainly ridden through rain. A weather bomb on the West Coast is not for the faint hearted!
