Friday we rode to dinner and met up with a dozen fellow riders, Saturday we rode to breakfast, and today I may take our eldest out for another scooter riding lesson.

Called a buddy last night for a ride today so we took the Indians out. Mid to upper 40s in the morning, upper 50s by the time we got home. Great breakfast at an Irish pub in Durham.

Great riding day.

So that's where all the girls are  :thumb:

Out of the six women there, 4 are regular scooter riders, and two grab a backseat.  I think scooters are the gateway drug into the world of PTWs for a lot of ladies.

Turns out, we will be sneaking a ride in this afternoon with the two pictured standing on the far left.

Great riding weekend. Cool sunny weather -- severe clear. On Saturday I took the Triumph out for a spin and spotted a '73 Bonneville at the side of the road. Stopped to help. Flat rear tire. Owner is a local guy, Tom, a new-to-me neighbor, who has owned the bike since new but has never worked on it. I tootled home, got the van, loaded him up and drove him home. Says the bike has never before stranded him -- but it's an oily dirty old beast, could use a clean-up but at 12,000 miles -- a lot for that bike -- seems to run fine.

Sunday rode the Mille over to Gypsum where Jerry Sibley held his annual open house -- He has about 100 old bikes, from about 1910 to the '80s, and does the work himself -- most of them are runners. Some photos:

Until midday it was an epic day for a ride in central Indiana, but I never turned a key, on a bike or a car. Seldom get to enjoy my place lately, particularly in daylight. Lots of chores, some trail tending, got the crock pot out. Ended the day with a gassy dog by the fireplace and watched my beloved Sox win the series, while "polo-ing"(marco polo - a video walkie talkie app) my kids - the three of us in three different states, all sporting Red Sox gear. All in all a pretty good day.

Breva back on the road. Frankenbox has 5 gears, but 5th is really loud. It did have chunks out of it.... Will see how long it lasts and how quickly it shreds.

I think with all the maneuvering the sidestand switch has got damaged as it will now only start with the clutch pulled in and the neutral light doesn't go. Just minor things.

Will keep an eye out for a second hand box.

Now see, I couldn't do that.   All hail your determination to ride, regardless of circumstances, but knowing that while I'm riding down the highway, with a big truck behind me maybe, or in a right-hand turn (left hand for you), my gearbox might grenade and lock up and toss my bike into the oncoming lane, or lock the back wheel and the bike skid to a stop with no brake light coming on .... I couldn't enjoy the ride.

Of course, it could happen on any bike, but ..... !

Good luck!

Uhhh....

4th isn't much better......, just quieter.

Desperate times call for desperate measures Chuck.  NZ$900 for just the 5th gears, without the shaft and bearing that also need replacing.  Basically, it's munted.

I'm hoping that a second hand box comes up Lannis.  I will only register the bike in two month bursts and keep an eye on the oil colour.  No long trips.

It is strange how something you know is going to happen , because it happened 18 years ago and you have seen it at least 4 times , can still cause an emotional response . Some of you know I am a huge fan of LOTSW , tonight's first episode of two is where Compo dies . Yeah , silly , I know .

Please do me one favor , don't let anyone as scruffy as me attend my funeral . Goodbye Compo .

Well, Doc says that the tumour on my foot has a <1% chance of being cancer, and I get to keep my toe. So, I'd say it's a good day.

Funny how one doc says "There's a very good chance you're gonna lose the toe" and the next says "nah, easy surgery, in and out, you'll keep it"

The bikes are winterized though that doesn't mean I won't ride if we get some warmish weather and dry roads. Meanwhile, I skied on Wednesday at Aspen, then moved my stuff into the ski school locker room at Snowmass (after 19 winters at Vail). Thanksgiving was rain and snow at home, good snow in Aspen, so I'm juiced. Need to ski a lot before I start teaching at Xmas.

I'm not sure if OETA's programming is available in other states , but it might be worth a try . We get Dr Who and a lot of the other British shows , albeit a year or so behind . We even get the Dr Blake mysteries from OZ . It is weird , have heard friends who live in CA and NY say their states PBS stations don't carry any high quality programming except for the current national productions . Guess we are lucky here .

After a somewhat lengthy delay by NZ Customs I have had notification that on the payment oif an eye watering sum they will release the '07 Breva gearbox that I bought off ebay.

Bike was a lowish mileage '07 Breva, with only the gauges wiped out. got the clutch cable as a spare as well, and also the "battery cover", which is a piece of plastic cover that goes from the bottom edge of the rear musdguard down to the swingarm.  Mine had obviously worn a rather large rock.

Two days to get from the US to NZ, eight days for it to sit in customs.

Hopefully, this ends my gearbox woes.  I have been riding it around using "Frankenbox", a mixture of two buggered gearboxes, using only the lower four gears so no out-of-town riding happening.

Hoping it is a good one.  The firm I bought it off has very good feedback, especially for a wrecker.  They don't usually score high on the satisfaction lists.

Went to visit Huzo in Creswick to get my oil pressure sender replaced today. It's one week until summer starts here in Oz and as I got closer to his place the temp dropped to around 9 degrees celcius which is bloody cold. Anyway Huzo helped replace the dud item and I now have a bike with no warning signs on the dash.
