Brother, oh brethren ...

I have come here not to entertain, but to complain - whine, you might say.

Having spent six months (two separate 3 mo stints) as a free agent in '18, I took an assignment working for the GM of a specialty machine shop that works with weird alloys to make ... stuff customers ask for. Further deponent sayeth not. Some of them probably go into Chuck in Indiana's post above.

The GM says the place is newly certified to the aerospace standard, and " the old sloppy ways won't work any more ".

He further informs me that after getting the barely regulatory compliant systems up to snuff, I would take on the engineering and product planning duties of a fellow he described as " he can be difficult to work with ". I assured him I can work with anybody, but he'll have to offer me appropriate money.

He does, and we agree I'll start in two weeks.

I come back in two weeks, and they inform me that the guy who hired me has passed away, and I'll be working for ... let's call him " Mr. Difficult " .

MD tells me that the regulatory compliance is only window dressing for the benefit of the customers, nobody takes it seriously, and I'm only to sweep up around the edges right before the auditor comes in. My focus shall be on maintaining the status quo and taking over his duties ASAP so he can move into sales.

I give him a reality check, and the game begins. Oh, and they want me in at six AM.

I am giving it my best, while documenting how far off course the regulatory compliance system is, to share with top management next week.

Why did I choose to be born handsome instead of wealthy?

Well, yesterday it ended as I expected it would - they handed me a check and showed me the door - Their "focus is not on the quality management system". I'm spending the weekend telling myself that the next great thing will materialize on Monday - I can always switch to being depressed next Friday if that doesn't occur.   :undecided:
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

May be a blessing in disguise Norm!! Have a couple shots, turn around and flip them the bird. Go for a ride, you'll feel better.

Sorry to hear that ... it sounded like a dysfunctional company from your last post, and I was hoping that your hiring might be a sign that they were going to get well again.

It's not to be, so on to the next thing.  There are companies truly interested in producing quality products (not just "sounding like" they're interested) that would like to have someone like you working for them ... Good Luck!

Last night, actually. Was bringing the dogs in and noticed that one had a possum in its mouth. They were all excited. While trying to get the dogs in the house and keep the presumed dead possum out I slipped on the ice and did a face plant in the driveway. Ouch. I think I lost more blood than the possum which chose that moment to return to life and scamper off.

Spent the day building a Dog Majal for the sweetest half pit bulldog in the world . He is on his third person , no idea what happened to him as a pup , but the neighbor who has him now says I am the only stranger he has ever warmed up to . Probably not what I needed to be doing , but probably what I should have been doing .

A very pleasant day indeed.  Three of us did the 250 mile round trip to Kaikoura, up on the inland route and back via the coastal route.  George on his 1190 KTM Adventure, Richard on his Yammie 600/4 and me on the Breva.  Temps of 78-82, barely a cloud in the sky and the latter part of the inland route is close to 50 miles of twisties.

Food and coffee just great in Kaikoura, a cafe called Chiwis, run by Kiwi Asians, or Asian Kiwis, whichever you like. Opposite the pub with the big crayfish on it. Highly recommended if any of you are passing through Kaikoura.

All bikes never missed a beat, and in spite of road works with a ton of new seal no one fell off.  (While swapping stories over lunch it appears we all had the odd pucker moment though).  A great ride all round.

When I got back from our weekend ride I noticed the RH front indicator was only just hanging on by a thin piece of plastic.  Somewhere along the line it obviously has taken a hit from something/someone , broken the mount on it and the wind and pummeling from the road works basically finished it off.  Being on the retirement superannuation the price of a new one was something I did not really want to shell out on so then the problem surfaces, how do you fix it when the only mount is no more.

Finally finished today a metal holder made from 1" square tubing that secures the indicator on to a metal base plate.  Good having things like compressors, air driven die grinders and a set of carbide burrs that really let you shape things.  A bit of JB weld, a bit of filler and a coat of black zinc and it is not really all that noticable. :undecided:

Either way, it saved me a few dollars (more Guzzi content) and a few days waiting, it is actually much stronger than the original and it actually gave me a lot of satisfaction coming up with a solution that works. :thumb:

75 degrees in East Texas. Loaded my old tiller in the pickup and went to Beavers and tilled her garden. The rear tine tiller sho nuff beats the old front tine. I'm tarred!

And don't I just look forward to it
