Flangeman,

That is the OEM bracket on the Daytona 1000 and Sport 1100 carbureted models. Art Corsetti made the "platform shoe" for the kickstand. I'm having him make one for my Sport 1100 also.

Hmmm, I should get Art to make one for my F650GS Dakar.

It looks like the Costa Concordia when it is on its side stand.

Installed the new Staintune system on the Daytona today. Right muffler is not so good looking as it's not new, so only one photo. Sounds good but I haven't taken it for a ride to see if there is any difference from the Mistrals.

Looking good Blackcat! I have a Staintune full system on both the Daytona 1000 and the Sport 1100. It's all I've ever had on them, besides OEM, so I can't make a comparison with other brands. I do regret not getting a Staintune Spaghetti full system for the Ducati when they were still being produced.

Went for a ride after snapping that picture and it does sound much better than the Mistrals, plus it seems to run better but that might just be an illusion.

The Cherohala Skyway crosses through the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee and the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina and is designated a National Scenic Byway. The name “Cherohala” comes from the names of the two National Forests: “Chero” from the Cherokee and “hala” from the Nantahala.

What forks and model of Daytona?

I'm asking as the engine isn't blackened like the RS, of course US could be different, & these are not early style forks, for which you should be eternally grateful

If you have not done it already, do not delay! Pre-empt the potential crash of your Daytona's engine.
A friends Centauro broke ~1 year ago @ 23k. The front main & 1st rod bearing surfaces were destroyed. He found a low mileage engine. An ex Guzzi shop tech had the crank welded and reground. Disassembled and flushed the engine, replaced both rods, etc.

Another friend, motorcyclist, machinist, 3 Centauro's + other collectibles, showed a stack of Centauro timing and oil pump gears to me; all with erosion on tooth contact surfaces. He changes them @ each timing belt change! He has been using std. MG parts 'til adding steel gear and pump to my bike. Good fortune,  R3~

I immediately went with the Joe Caruso conversion @ less than 20K. I've learned there is increasing danger beyond 20K and almost guaranteed failure by 30, 35K miles.
Mine is a '93 also. Original except for the Teo Lamers deep sump and 'outy' filter

I have to do this change on my RS, but it has very low miles on the bike. My only issue is whether I should attempt to do this myself or take the bike to someone and have the work done.

In the meantime, I'm going to get the parts and look at them for awhile and try to will them into the engine.

OJ,

It is a '93 Daytona 1000. The 1000 was produced from '92-'96 but only "officially" came to the US in '93. The RS was introduced for '97. The final year for the Daytona 1000 was 1996 and it was badged the Daytona 1000 Racing. It had the dark gray / black motor like the RS did the following year but '92-'95 1000 engines were silver.

Your eyes don't deceive you. The front end is off a GSX-R 750.

Yeah I know the early Daytona, used to own one

First guy I knew who did the GSXR fork thing was Ian Cobham "Cobby" who raced one in the BEARS series, really nice guy, I asked about the mod and he explained it all.

He then insisted I sit on his race bike and bounce on the forks to get some idea of the improvement, I was reluctant to throw a leg over somebody's race bike but he would have none of it nd positively insisted, a lasting memory of how approachable some of the racers were

Lovely, iconic Daytona - congratulations!

If you are intending to swap out the Tokico calipers for Brembos, this may prove a bit trickier than it at first appears.  The issue is that Asian (Nissin, Tokico, Frando, et al) radial-mount calipers are standardized at a 108mm spacing, while Brembo uses a 100mm standard.  Thus the lower fittings of your GSXR forks will not accept standard Brembos.

However, I believe that Brembo does make a limited number of specially-adapted calipers with 108mm spacing for the conversion market in Asia.  These hybrid calipers, of course, are exceptional and may be hard to find - and likely expensive.  But with money and ingenuity, almost anything is possible.
