Corbin seat for California 1400 is available
« on: June 15, 2014, 12:02:56 AM »
I borrowed my bike to Corbin and they made a nice seat for the new California 1400. Check out their website for pics -- I highly recommend it :-)

Does it change the drivers seating position at all?  Lower/higher or  back/forward?

I would say it's slightly higher than the stock one.

I ordered one up for my 1400 Touring a little over a week ago, and it's supposed to be at my door before I leave for the Broken Arrow Rendezvous. The airhawk helps a bunch, but I think I'm going to love this seat. I even went for the heated option.  ;-T ;-T ;-T ;D ;D ;D ;-T ;-T ;-T

That's a Guzzi top case. Two are available.

FWIW that unit pictured is the 50L unit.  Looks like it was designed by Givi...the 60L is a much more substantial piece and resembles the "tourpack" used on some Hardley Rideable Touring models.

That looks great!  I just bought an older Corbin for my LM IV from a fellow WG'er and it's so much better than the cut-down stock seat I had.  I don't remember how tall the OEM LeMans IV seat was but this Corbin surprised me by being a few inches taller than I'd become accustomed to.  Longer reach to the ground, more relaxed seat to peg position and lots of room to move around.  Very nice.  A little fat looking on the bike, but then so is my rear I'm sure.

Anymore updates on the seat you can share? Does the heating extend to the rear passenger area as well? Did this seat mess with your reach to the ground? Thanks!

Can someone LEND them a V7 Special?  Love to have one on mine. I have their "Gunfighter and Lady" on my R75/5.  Seat hinges up like stock, firm but comfy.

A few weeks ago I went down to MD and back, did a total of over 400 miles for one day. I have the low gel seat option on my Cali 1400 T and honestly, I had a bad case of monkey butt towards the end of the ride. I normally will "powder" up the lower region when I plan an all day ride, and that day I did forget and it was quite warm. I'm wondering if this Corbin is as good as some say? I have heard good and bad about Corbin in the past. Not sure I would like to take an almost $800 bills gamble to find out it's NOT the cats meow.

Yarvis,

Gel seats tend to heat up more than standard foam, I'm sure that contributed to your swamp-ass.  Try an Alaska sheepskin first?  Keeps you cooler in the summer, and warm in the winter and won't ad any height.  Those sheep are onto something.

http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com/servlet/the-Sheepskin-Buttpads/Categories

But the Corbins are good. Their philosophy is a firm seat that imprints your butt over time.

The sheepskin sounds interesting, how do they attach to the actual seat? I guess I need to do some measuring to see which one would be a good fit for me and my touring.

Removable piece of elastic runs under the seat and clips onto the sheepskin.  Inexpensive experiment as opposed to buying a new seat.  If you don't like the skin, I'm sure someone here would snap it up.  Just don't fart on it until you're sure.

Both rider and passenger areas are heated. Just a single switch for the whole seat. The seat sits a little higher than stock, but that's good for me. No one that's taken a test ride has had issue with the seat height. Just rolled over 17000 miles this past weekend. Pulling the trailer I had a couple of gas runs of over 40 mpg on back roads. I like it.   ;-T ;-T ;-T ;D ;D ;D ;-T ;-T ;-T

My corbin seat keeps getting better as it breaks in. Very firm, and not hot at all. No more gorilla ass. Also had the gel touring seat,no comparison. Worth every penny.

Reading on this seat I have to ask if it is actually taller or wider? I only have a 28" inseam and I am about at max right now. I installed Wilber's rear shocks and fork springs and was assured they were the same length as stock. They are. The same length as the 1400 Custom shocks which are about 5/8" (16mm) longer than the Tour shocks from what I have gathered. So I really don't want to add any more. I do fairly well on the stock seat but I can feel it pounding down at the end of a long day. Besides, a Corbin on my BMW R12GS I had made a huge difference even if the ones on my VFR700 and my PC800 were no shining examples of comfort.

I didn't really notice a big width difference for the driver, but it is wider for the passenger, and a whole lot more comfy. As for height it may be a half in. or so higher when new but in time I think it compresses a little. I am sure you can have it tailored to your liking, I chose silver stitching as I liked the contrast. They are easy to deal with and do an excellent job, by far the best upgrade if you plan to spend long day's in the saddle. The firmness and the leather pleating make for a much cooler ride ,and I know any passenger will appreciate it as well. A great company I hope they stick around.

I've got the factory lower gel seat on my 1400.  Longest ride I've done on it was 550 miles straight.  Felt like I could go another few hundred for sure.  Best feeling seat I've ever had.  Every butt is different. I'm glad they modeled the seat after one like mine.

I have had 4 Corbin seats on different makes of bikes and presently have a Corbin solo on my 03 Stone.  I have been very pleased with Corbin's seats and one clear advantage they have over any custom seat; you can send it back for refund if you don't like it since it's an off-the-shelf item.  I had a problem with one custom seat that never was successfully resolved due to the distance involved and now I fear I also may have joined the ranks of those unfortunates who sent a stock seat and check to Rick Mayer Seats (last November) and have thrown my money (and OEM seat) away, with no response and no recourse.
