I always thought a mushroom was behind the high school stage where you made out with a hot cheerleader.

Looks like it is going to be a long winter.

Here in Indiana, dry land fishing gets into full swing every spring.  It turn into some fierce competition. Everyone has a secret place and you never share it with anyone.

The mush room is the room where you take off your outerwear after mushing with the dogs.  (Iditarod content)

Very interesting stuff. I had an Italian neighbor who made money on the side mushrooming and selling to local restaurants. Personally, I would never mess with it. Given the consequences of a mistaken ID, I'll get mine in the produce section, thank you very much. However, I'd be perfectly happy hunting and identifying. Seems like it would go hand in hand with bird watching.

bird watching is a hazardous past time- but someone's got to keep an eye on the little bastards.

@Sasquatch Jim - yes there is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic_bird
Less of a problem than toxic mushrooms, though.

Don't you guys have Yellowfoot mushrooms?
Easy to learn how to be certain about it, and one of the best for eating, IMO.

Found a restaurant in Rome that serves carpaccio of ceps. Huge thin slices, served with ruccola, parmesan flakes and olive oil. :drool
