Rick , I have a little Giant telescoping ladder , and while it will store in a small space , it is heavy , awkward to use , and the rungs are small and not very comfortable to stand on . Pricey also . Having spent hours on ladders over the last 25 years , would not recommend that brand . Give me a regular old Werner . Dusty
My uncle died because of one of the aforementioned brands folded itself while he was changing security lights. Check for lawsuit history and caveat emptor.
I will have to stop by Costco and check out that little Giant you recommend LeRoy, if it fits in a beetle, I guess it may even fit in the trunk of my Camry. How long is it approximately fully extended? Oh and how much $$?Thanks Rick.
Werner fiberglass ladder for me. Add the aluminum arms at the top and it is quite stable for most situations.
I recently bought the 17' version of the Little Giant folding ladder. In doing so, I got rid of a 6' aluminum step ladder and a 20' aluminum extension ladder. The little giant folds up and hangs on the garage wall in less vertical space and no more footprint space than the step ladder. It is an excellent product, well made, secure in use and very versatile. It's much more secure feeling than either other ladder although it won't reach the ultimate height of the old extension ladder. That's OK, though. I never liked being up at the maximum extension. Now, if something calls for that much distance off the ground, I hire it done. The Little Giant isn't cheap, but I bought it at Costco at a more attractive price than usualand they threw in several useful accessories. I'd do it again. The only downside is that it's a good deal heavier than a simple step ladder so you have more weight to lug around to the work site. On the other hand, I fit the whole thing in the trunk of my Beetle (2014 model) with only the back seat folded. There are other, similar products. Harbor Freight sells one a lot cheaper. I'm just not sure I'd trust what I got at that price. Might as well buy American in this case.
This is the one I think of when you say telescoping.http://t.staples.com/XtendClimbA-105-Aluminum-Home-Series-Telescoping-Ladder/product_20003527?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:20003527&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=20003527&KPID=20003527&kpid=20003527&gclid=CLmN06W4_sMCFUM1aQodw5AAyA
I have had one for 5 years and I love it the only thing is to look at the load rating. I bought one as a gift for a friend of mine and he exceeds the load rating.
Good point on the fiberglass model Jonathon . The rung width may not matter overly much to someone not spending hours a day on a ladder , but the narrow or old style round ones just kill me after about 20 minutes . Dusty
