Pleasant Little Stop in Hopland, CA (on US 101 - north of SF)
« on: February 27, 2015, 11:49:12 AM »
I enjoyed a pleasant break from some north bay explorations by stumbling into a small olive oil press and winery in Hopland CA called Terra Savia.  All organic.  Most fruit grown on site.  Wine tasting and olive oil tasting in a basic, but intriguing environment.

I've posted some details at: http://thechurchoftheopenroad.blogspot.com/2015/02/tuscany-just-up-road.html

(I may have been slightly swayed by the fact that the proprietress made nice about my Breva as I rode up...)   :)

Nice!  Thanks for posting that.  I am planning a ride up the 101 this summer.  I will make it a point to stop in!

Thanks for the post and you opened up a Brave new World for me.

There's a bunch of little wineries up in Amador Valley I could visit.

They have a lot of Reds there and I could talk to the Owners about buying their pomace.

Pomace is the key to Grappa.

Quote
On average 100kg of grape pomace yields from 4 - 8 litres of grappa at 70%abv.

Of course I might have to buy a case or so of their wine.  It would be a win-win proposition.  A little wine with the meal - a little Grappa afterwards

Ahhh...  Amador County and California's Shenandoah Valley:  The way the Napa Valley was before it became the Napa Valley...   ;D

They brew some good ales in that area as well.

Black Lightening is GREAT!   Walking distance from my go-to spot to stay in while in Eureka - the Eureka Inn.  Historic rooms.  Really reasonably priced: http://www.eurekainn.com/Pages/default.aspx
