I've been looking for the right Eldorado to come along and finally Lady Luck was on my side. A old fella came in looking for a mid sized scooter and I so happened to have traded for one, nice Suzuki Burgman 400. He said once his bike sold he'd be back for it. I remembered him from last year and asked if he still had his Eldo and if that is what he was selling. He did and it was, took a bit to convince him to trade it in, I've heard of the guy he was selling it to and the bike would have probably been torn apart and sold a piece at a time on ebay.
He called me that night and said he'd be willing to trade. I went to his house the next day and was pleasantly surprised at the Guzzi's condition. She has iron bores 950cc, came with tons of the parts like the old cylinders, extra heads, carbs, tool boxes, the correct seat, flywheel ect. She fires right up but carbs need rebuilt due to leaking gas and runs very rich. He had owned the bike since 1980 and repainted it due to being in a light garage fire before he bought it.
Well to help pay the shop back for it I sold my 1970 Stornello and that got me half way there, I've got a few bucks set back so I'm gonna pay for her tomorrow.
Now to find some Buco or DB bags and maybe find someone to pin stripe it, go through the mechanicals, higher bars and a windshield! She'll be a high flying lady soon enough.
I just love these old bikes but the drum brakes are something to be aware of.
** anyone know the brand of floorboards on her? They are huge! Not sure how I think about the pegs being gone, though they would have been there and the boards just for highway cruising!
