NGC: Best tactical flashlight, suggestions
« on: March 11, 2015, 11:24:40 AM »
I'm looking for a very bright reliable tactical flash light, something I can put in my pocket or hang off my belt.  It would be in my Guzzi motorcycle bag, and on my bicycle when I hit the backroads at nite.  So many options, just don't know which is best.  If it matters, I have a ton of rechargeable 18650 batteries.  Thanks :)

It's hard to say what the best one is, because it depends on what you like.  I've been using a Trustfire F20 for several years.  They were a little over $10 at dealextreme.com last time I bought a few.  They use a single AA cell, and I use an Eneloop.  They're the best rechargeable cells I've found so far, lasting about a week of regular use.  The thing these have going for them is tiny size and three levels of brightness so you can conserve battery power when you want to.  You can hardly tell one is in your pocket.

I use a Petzl Zipka 'headlight' that takes 3 AAA batteries. Might replace them this year, did not last year.

I get the triple pack at Costco.  They run on 3 AAA and work well.  So well that I use them as aux lights on the Goose (adapted to 12V).

I had a nice Streamlight but it got "boosted" during a (non-Guzzi) group event when I lent it out ....

I wonder (while people are looking) if there is a quality LED flashlight that also has a butane torch built in?   I see ones on line but they're really cheap and nasty.   I always like to carry the means to make not only light but fire when I'm out and about, dressed in animal skins and straddling a machine propelled by fire (as we all now say!).

ADVMonster sells a led flashlight.  http://stores.advmonster.com/m12-flashlight-kit/

I haven't used their flashlight, but I do have a set of the ADVMonser driving lights that are a great bang for the buck item.

The DOD contract pilots (and others) are issued an extremely bright (will blind you at close range if shined into your eyes, about 5" long)
Many commercial pilots carry these as with the serrated bezel on the end of the light (very sharp) it is an effective weapon hand to hand. Look thru their site, I looked at mine and it has no model # other that DOD, but I know that you can buy one off this site. Uses lithium batteries unique to the light.

May be pricey but I'm never without mine working or on the road.

Best I've ever seen.

Funny, I was just going to tell you about my recent purchace of a Fenix and I read the entire thread to see Asyum's link.

Yeak, Fenix TK09 will light up the crack of dawn.  I bought this at REA in Chuula Vista on a visit to buy something else...  I like good flashlights.

This one I can recommend.

Best,

I had those and others similar, but last year I switched over to a new type clip light and recommend it highly.

A slim pen light with a very long surface mount LED with 140 luminens! Incredibly bright with a even wide flood, has a very strong magnet in the clip that holds the unit very well and can be angled to point at the working area, or clipped to your shirt so you can use both hands..... dam useful! In fact I think this is the most useful and handy flashlight I have ever used!  ;-T

It is slim and doesnt get in the way while I am working in tight conditions, and if it is disturbed a little it doesnt roll or move around to be a nuisance.
The batteries 3 aaa last longer than the other types I have used too. I bought 4 more of these exact same lights and gave them to some of my friends as safety gifts. They love em! (and me too!  :-[ )

For its size and power (500 Lumens) it's hard to beat a Streamlight Strion LED. It's a rechargeable Lithium-Ion. There are several models to choose from. They are not cheap, around $100.00 including battery and charger, but if you don't loose it, it's the last flashlight you will need to by. Comes with a NO-Bull Lifetime Warranty. I have used Streamlight products for 30 years and never had a complaint. "Most" of their products are still American Made.

Proper use of flashlight :)

I need too many to spend $100 each on them.  One each bedside stand.  One each end table by the couch.  One on the bike (in addition to the two shown above).  One in the truck, one in car, one each in tool box (three of those), two in the RV, one in the shop and one next to the front door.

FWIW.  I own 6, yes 6 of these.  One in cars, bikes, work, bedroom nightstand, etc.  They are awesome.  2500 lumens, water proof, rechargeable, and $10.

I love them.  Highly recommend.

Well, yes, but those folks are posting on the threads having to do with bikes and riding and titled as such.  There are lots and lots of them.

Just a hint - if the subject says "What's for Breakfast?" or "Best Flashlight?" or "Where Should I Live?", then there probably won't be much riding content on it, and you might want to just skip it?   Seems a bit of a waste of bandwidth to ask "Is This A Guzzi Forum Or A Steel-Cut Oats Forum?" on each thread ....

Sorry Guzzistajohn.  I enjoy the outdoors and like I said in the main title, it was NGC.  With that out there, I also said I wanted a tactical light to add to my Guzzi tool bag.  I prefer to sleep outdoors as much as possible and avoid motels.  Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs ....

I thought when I bought my 3 cell Mag light, I'd just bought my last flashlight. Wrong. It eats D cells. I now have Cree AA powered LED lights, and they are freakin awesome at around 10 bux.
