May I never mock Nick Harris again. ... no; can't happen.
« on: March 14, 2015, 01:05:38 PM »
PeteS passed a message that FanChoice was streaming racing live. How could I not look?
I buy the MotoGP package every year. Free online racing seems like a dream.
So this morning I'm out here in the shop listening/watching Daytona 200. It's been years since I've had TV access to N.American racing.
Nick Harris... Nick has been announcing MotoGP as long as I can remember. He is the grand-grand old boy of motor racing announcing.
These days he forgets the race locations and occasionally even the name of a rider in the lead. But he has a great support team who 'correct' grand-dad on air.
What makes Nick good is his access to history and his ability build audio excitement where the video shows a different story.
What has this to do with Daytona?
The announcers should take a lesson in embellishment. (in my opinion).
For example: drop the word 'again'. It means 'once more'; not 'I can't think fast enough to commentate'.
Or 'so' or 'shuffle' or 'ah?' or 'blank airtime'.

I am enjoying the race... but the volume is way down.

Connie , Uncle Nick is the grand old man for sure . The guys announcing the 200 aren't so bad though , just different.

If Rich Whatever His Name Is, says "tagteam" one more time I think I'll just shoot my Dell.

  :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yeah , and the term "Back to the front" , apparently picked up from crashcar announcers, is also really annoying .

We almost had no video coverage of the 200. I'm happy to watch and even listen to the blathering. It beats the hell out of the TV coverage that was available even just a week ago.

SOOOO true. I'm glad to be able to watch something where the total purse is less than Rossi takes home every race. This is 'people' racing; like you or I could afford ( ::) )

Eslick has become the banking master . Long way from racing the Oklahoma dirt tracks where his main competition was his brother A.J. . Congratulations Danny  ;-T

Great race, but I was pulling for Josh.

I was pulling for Geoff May since both he and Eslick have no other races lined up this year.  But the best man won  ;-T   This was a 1 off for both of them.  :'(  At least they won some $ and attention out of it.

I went riding, nothing on the web saying who won.

Sounds like Danny must've done it.  Two time winner.  Funny he was on a Suzuki and not a Triumph.

CycleNews.com has a pic of Eslick with the trophy and a short description of the race and the top 10 finishers.  ;)

snookered Herrin?  With the history among those two, it couldn't have been better.  Wish I'd seen it.  No loved lost between those two and their fans.  Glad Danny thumped him, if he didn't dump him.   ~; ~; ~; ~; ~; ~;

funny deal,  Danny's Suzuki was the only non-Yamaha in the top 10.

I'll bet Triumph are kicking theirselves.

I watched and it was a good one. I was surprised by the international entries. Reminded me of the old days. Looking forward to the new series.

I agree, with , mtiberio, Richard Chambers is great. His limp came from being there.
When I was wrenching the ahrma series, he was always at Daytona, areal race announcer.

Before Eslick raced a Triumph he raced a Suzuki and I'll bet that's the same bike.  ;)
