More seat room, 98 EV.
« on: March 15, 2015, 02:03:12 PM »
I have a Ned's seat on my bike. I'm trying to get a little more seat room for me and the wife. I tried just removing the backrest, but the mounting point that remains would dig into her butt, which isn't good for a long ride.

I was think of cutting off the backrest completely, just about the weld on the luggage rack. But, that would leave exposed metal. Any suggestions on what I could use to fill the holes and the gap between the seat and the trunk?

Backrest mount is almost 2" above the luggage rack. Measured 10" wide.
2X4 of Jatoba(Brazilian Cherry). Bout 10 bucks a foot.
Looks like a Givi mount. It can be secured to bolts for mount.

Go back and look at your backrest frame and the rear box universal mounting plate.  Once you have removed the backrest, you can move the mount plate forward an extra few inches, right up against the back of the seat.  In that way, the wife will rest her back against the rear box and the backrest mounts won't be pushing up against her.

Here is a Givi box on my EV with a Maund seat:

And here is a Givi box on Regina's EV with stock seat:

Thanks Patrick. That's a good idea, but I don't think it'll solve the problem. If I move the trunk forward, then she'll end up sitting in the same spot as she is now with the backrest in place. I'm trying to leave the trunk where it is, giving us a couple of inches of extra room.

What worked for me is putting straighter bars on the EV. Moved me up a couple of inches. The motivation wasn't for more passenger room, my wife hated the EV seat, but get my butt off the computer hump. Never liked the buckhorn bars anyway.

Sent pics of what I made today

If you cut off mounts, it would just be a 1X4
