Kickstart for Your Guzzi
« on: March 30, 2015, 12:24:55 PM »
I must have been imagining things but I thought I saw a thread bemoaning the fact the guzzi doesn't have a kickstart

I'm sure one of these can be adapted

I remember the magazine articles noting that the Guzzi didn't have a kicker. It was a huge thing in 1967 as the first 'big bike' without a kicker even being available.

For a while I hunted Ebay in Europe, looking for one of the kickstarters that were put on the smallblock Nato edition.

I eventually gave up.  The ones I found were tres $$$.  Although the idea still lurks....

If you buy that you should not be allowed to take your motorcycle out of the garage.  Just sit on it and make "vroom, vroom" noises with your mouth.

the nato gearbox is pretty easy to find over here, but it will come with a V35 gearing
you cant simply change the gearing to a V50 or V65 gearing , because the kickstart mechanism works on the primary drive.
changing the gearing is possible , but quite a challenge

Huub,
Thank you for the education.  I thought the Nato bike was a V65, but it was 350?

I have wondered who would buy one that attached to the starter bolts, it is very doable.
Would you spend $200 for one? $400?

Just to the rear of the folded side stand and under the starter motor... Is that the kick start lever?

that is the kickstart..
The V50 nato had a shorter gearing as the civilian V50 ,
probably to be used on parades? who knows.

the first time i saw a V50 nato a soldier had broken down on the highway.
curious, i stopped.
he was quite relaxed about it. basically the engine had seized .
he said it ran pretty well, went to its 135 km/hour topspeed, and suddenly died on him.
135 km/hour is probably past its redline.
when i looked at the odo , the poor thing  had 24 km on the clock... ???
