Spring is here!
« on: March 31, 2015, 01:39:06 PM »
It's official (for me anyway). The robins, grackles and red-winged blackbirds have returned.  The snow is melting (slowly) and the roads are bare.

I celebrated with a 90 mile lunchtime run along the St. Lawrence River.  Wahoooo ;-T

Your pics look pretty winterish to a Missouri hillbilly, but I always dig your ride reports. I actually looked for shade today here, Redbud trees are blooming, people are starting to talk about morrell mushroom hunting. Yep! Spring has Sprung! ;-T ;-T ;-T ;-T ;-T ;-T ;-T

I was invited to attend the RAT Raid, so I suppose I'll go.  I need to get to the Ozarks.  It's been since Labor Day.

Busy April:  COTA, Cedar Vale, RAT Raid.   :bike

I'm getting some Dunlop Roadsmarts on the Greenie to get prepped for the trips.

Assume that you'll ride the Guzzi to the RAT raid and the Triumph to CV?    ;D

It struggled up to 2 degrees above freezing during today's 90 mile ride.  Lots of quilted layers. Heated gear? Pah! ~;

I tried.  Absolutely twice the money.  I can get the Dunlops 38% discount and they cost much less than the Pirellis to begin with.  I need tread right now with easily 2000 miles to cover this month.  Perhaps there's a 200% advantage going Pirellis but I doubt it.

Actually, I put a Dunlop Q3 on when I was caught out in Kerrville TX right after I bought the bike.  The PO had patched the Angel from the inside, it came undone and I was stuck.  <shrug>  The Dunlop felt really good but it was full sport tire.

Perhaps the Pirellis will go on sale tomorrow?  But today it was a choice among Dunlops, Contis, or Sheinkos.

I keep imagining that some of that snowmelt running across the road is not actually in liquid form ..... I'd be nervous and clenching up the seat the whole ride!

So I prefer looking at your pictures to riding between snowbanks!

At this time of year, if the sun is out, it warms up the road surface so that even if the air temperature is below freezing point, the water is liquid.

Nevertheless, I'm always very wary of shadows and water draining across the road (and I ride like a Granny anyway).  There were only three or four such spots during the whole ride - fortunately none of them were icy.

Good point though.

Nick: What is that red thingy sticking out at a 90 degree angle from the front of your bikes frame, down low?  Is it an oil filter?  I think I read that the early Guzzi twins did not have oil filters and I am guessing this is an aftermarket accessory filter.  Inquiring minds want to know.

Ralph - it's a filter for a GMC V6. the previous owner was an engineer (whatever that means).  He plumbed it in somehow (originally using copper water pipe - now replaced with hydraulic hose).  I don't know where he took the feed from, but it works. I've added about 50,000 miles to the bike since and it hasn't caused any problems yet.

NICE!

I am picking my Eldo up from a shop on Saturday, had the bike tuned on a dyno over the winter, turns out the repro carb throttle cable on the left hand side was about a 1/4" too short, brought them tow pairs both too short. The shop built a nee pair of cables and now the left slide sits where it should and apparently the bike runs much smoother. When the bike was hot it was hard to restart, the 'high' LH slide was over fuelling the LH cylinder on hot start and making the carbs impossible to balance. Two mechanics with over 60 years experience between them run the shop and they really know their old bikes. I would never have figured this one out.

Curious if anyone else has come across this with repro throttle cables on an Eldo?

In any event I hope to get the Eldo on the road soon.

Beautiful first ride this season.  Temp stayed at 40F which felt great in spite of 30mph winds.  Breva is just a fine ride.

Ahem. It was a little hot today,   ~; so I went to MGC and hung out with Mark. Put in 110 miles of most excellent twisties with GuzziBob a couple of days ago, though.  ;D About 500 miles this week. I *love* riding in the canyons, it's been positively cosmic after our brutal winter in Indiana.  ;-T
