Riding season must be getting close ......
« on: March 31, 2015, 07:18:24 PM »
...... I stopped off at AutoZone and bought a spritz bottle of Meguiers Detailer, and ran my microfiber polishing rags thru the washer and dryer.  Quick inventory shows that the Beemer has new tires, the Griso's PR3 have less than 3k on them.  The 1200 Sport PR3 tires are shot with 10k miles on them, so time to shell out some cash for a set of PR4s to start off the 2015 season.  All bikes had oil and filters changed in Nov, 2014, so, good to go.

Now, if the weather would just improve!

I only have one riding season a year.  It runs from the first of Jan. to the thirty first of Dec.
In fact that was also my riding season in Washington state, and Oregon, and Illinois.
I didn't have that long a season when I lived in Alaska though or Ohio.

Let me know ..... we'll warm up on some of Ohio's best ..... and believe it or not, (caption for out-of-staters) we have some fine roads just south of Cleveland ..... well, about 75 miles south!

And I know that all of you don't have what I call a 'season', since it's beautiful  12 months out of the year where you live.  Unfortunately, we do.  I'm attaching a pix that'll give you a better idea that the past several months hasn't been our season to ride!

Oops .... I'll do it later ..... I forgot I have to first put the pic on Photobucket or similar.

OK ... here it is .... a lovely day in late Feb 2015.  Note, the sun was out!

I'm always amazed when I ride in east-central and southeastern Ohio by the quality of the roads for bikes.

Fay is looking at maps planning a ride, I don't know where we're going yet but she's getting anxious.    Last snow didn't melt till a few weeks ago, and the "First Spring Peepers" didn't sound off until the 12th of March, so this has been a loong winter ....

Lannis, I think you've been riding to the BritBike events in Steubenville and other places in NE Ohio, so you've had the opportunity to experience some of our better biking roads.  They're different than the good roads in VA, not quite as sweeping, but they'll give you and your bike a good workout.

What amazes me is the abruptness of some of the hills and drop-offs, and the radius of some of the turns.   You can pop over a blind hill and 20 feet on, the road takes a 90-degree turn that you didn't know was coming.   And if you ride like I would ride on a Virginia two-lane road, you will have a wheel lose contact with the road and you will get very light .... !

It's a lot of fun but you have to be very careful - you can't depend on "curve" and "maximum safe speed" warning signs to take care of you, you have to take care of yourself ..... It's a whole different road-building philosophy than on the other side of that big river!
