New (to me) bike perhaps??
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:02:16 PM »
Just had a dealer call me about a trade he just took in.  It is a Harley dealer, and I used to work with the owners son, who now works there with his father. The bike that was traded in I seen last year at the VFW.  The  owner had just bought it that day from Jimmy at Neds.  I chatted with the owner and we traded numbers, I congratulated him on the purchase, and we parted after a couple of drinks.  Yesterday he called me and told me he found a HD Black Rod at HD and he wanted to sell the 98 EV.  When I first saw it, the odo showed 3,000 miles.  It now has 3,700.  Jimmy at Neds said it was sold by Ned to the original owner, and maintained by Ned's, and the mileage is accurate.  I asked the gentleman what he wanted for it.  He said what he paid for it last year, $5,000.  I kindly told him no way would he ever get that for the bike, regardless of the low mileage. I told him he would be doing very well to get $3,500 for it. I suggested that he see what the dealer would give him for it, but to expect $1,000 to $2,000 in real money for it. Today the dealer called me, after getting my number from David, which I said he could give. The dealer offered it to me for $2,500, but the rear tire needs replaced. It is a 98 EV Black and Charcoal with 3,700 original miles.  Damn, I wish money wasn't so tight right now.  :'(

Helluva deal.  You should go pick it up, even if you don't intend to keep it.

Buy it and keep it at a friends house until you can slip into the garage.   After a few weeks it'll blend right in and Lorraine will figure their just breeding.   :wife:

Who or whom is going to ride it?  you don't have time once you exercise the current fleet.

At that price, I might be interested.  If it's in good condition.

The rims are almost worth that much. They had a recall on the rear rim. A very few had the spokes break until they put in a spacer and upgraded the rim.
I put over 1/4 million miles on '98 EV's. Put on a 4 gallon fuel cell and ride.

Suggestions on the table include a WG auction and a rally raffle.

Can we do a WG raffle? I'd be in for a hundred.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

I don't think an "official" WildGuzzi raffle will be happening.  The last one had some land mines courtesy of Uncle Sam.

Well, I decided against picking up the bike.  Sometimes it sucks being a responsible adult.   :D  That is the bad news, the good news?  A member here has bought it and will be picking it up soon.  I'll let the member reveal themselves when they wish.  I inspected the bike today, and it is pristine to say the least. Sucked to make the adult decision and decline the purchase, but my balance sheet does look better because of it.   ;D ::)

You DO know that that balance sheet is going to be shredded and burned once you're gone, no matter what figures it has on it?

Although it's good to know that if you didn't get the bike, someone else will be enjoying it and we'll get to hear about it!

Lannis, very true, but while alive, life is better with a balance sheet with zero debt.  I could have bought the bike, rode it and enjoyed it, or stuck to our rule of no unnecessary spending until totally debt free, hopefully in the next few years.  It's not like I don't have A bike to ride.  I do have access to a bike when ever I wish to ride.   It did go to a Guzzi guy rather than on to flea bay and a sad demise.

So does that mean you won't sell me a Centauro for 500? Either one I could use for spares.

I still have five freshly printed $100 bills sitting here for your Centy. You just need to deliver it and pick up the cash.  :D

No wonder so many have free advice to give me. Or is supply and demand?  There is much more supply than there is demand for free advice.  :D

The pitfalls in the other raffle were due to it being a 'charity'/non-profit/benefit event.  The rules would be different if it was a for-profit thing that was taxable.  Of course that would also mean different pitfalls.  We cleared our raffle with luap before publicizing anything.  You might ask him how he feels about this model.  Be prepared with the possible pitfalls and solutions.

Today was a nice day for a drive to Iowa!   Zoomed up there this morning, picked it up from a dealer who was a pleasure to work with, had lunch with Stormtruck2, and now a really nice Guzzi is in my garage!  Thanks Stormtruck2 for posting about this motorcycle.  I've wanted a Guzzi for years almost hard to believe one is in the garage now.....
