solution to problem Guzzi content if
« on: April 14, 2015, 10:31:13 PM »
Your mobility scooter is Guzzi powered.
Solution to a problem.
Have you ever been where you had to choose between your scooter, which they won't let into some stores and coffee shops,
or your wheelchair which you may have to wheel a mile or two just to get there?  Well I have.  So i built a device that says I can scooter to the coffee shop, 1 1/2 miles up the road, and have my wheelchair with me.  Or I can put my accordion in the chair, ride the scooter to the park or where ever, then get in the chair and annoy tourists with the accordion.
First I fashioned a trailer hitch that fits the scooter in the same place the factory does one.  A simple affair with an upright steel rod that has a small hole to accept a linchpin keeper.  Then I cut two equal length pieces of 1/2 inch steel conduit.  I used a hobby lathe to cut 1/2 inch fine thread nuts to fit into the ends of the tubes.  I then brazed them there in place.  That is so I can screw heim joints into the ends.  Then I machined a pair of aluminum pieces that fit the heim joint and are held by linch pins.  The big end of the aluminum slips into the socket on the chair where the leg supports normally pivot.  The other ends of the tubes are set over the trailer hitch pin and linch pinned.  Voila!
The wheelchair has become a trailer to carry the accordion or groceries, or your dog or what ever fits.  The front caster wheels adapt to any turning movement of the scooter and the big wheels just follow along.  It does not seem to add much noticable drag on the scooter.

VERY nice work, and I, for one, welcome our new accordion overlords. At least he's not a bagpipes guy.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Why should the ADA have any say in it?
The VA gave me my scooter but it is certainly legal for anyone to buy and ride one whether or not they are disabled.
Just remember that 8 1/2 miles an hour is not really white knuckle thrilling.  It is however faster than my wheel chair which
begins to have speed wobble at that speed.  For a mere 8 grand plus about a grand shipping, I can get a German one that can go 19 MPH
and go 50 miles between charges.  For that much you can buy a decent motorcycle.

You'd think the local business people would crowd fund to buy you a 50 mile range just for the chance to move the accordionist along.
Although; the guy with the flaming bagpipes playing ACDC does appear to draw a crowd.

I don't think you got the meaning of my question.  I think the ada ALLOWS scooters and wheelchairs in public places. Your intro statement made me think you were  NOT allowed inside. Did I misread your intent? :)

That's really cool Jim. Will the scooter tow it with a strumpet you've picked up in the chair?

Since Sasquash did not answer my second inquiry I read again his original post and finally understood what he was saying. I hate it when I don't understand the written word.yes it is a great solution to the problem.I still don't see why stores won't let the scooters in unless the store is too small.

In stores around here the aisles are too small to permit turning.

BTW, I like the picture Avatar posted.  I will research that one.

Or I could harness two strumpets to pull my wheelchair.

Research show that it is an Italian prototype not in production, mores the pity.

Looks like that scooter trike is on the way though Jim. A great product I would think, though not a new idea. There are a number of home built versions about.
