Trying to make some decisions (a big one as this may be the only time I ever get to the frame on this bike), anyway... getting closer and closer to powder coating the frame on my G5, and now I wonder... Should I venture into some color in my life? I'm mainly interested in seeing a Tonti frame, ideally a G5, convert or T3 with mostly a stock look overall, but with a silver frame. I've searched, no luck. If you have some photos stashed away on your computer that match that description, please post. So far I'm going with Satin Black, but a nice silver finish is picking at my brain...

Like this one I saw on eBay a while ago:

Yay or Nay?

(the sheet metal will be a dark metallic gray)

Go for silver.  You're going to be cleaning it often so make it a tough finish.  Gunmetal bodywork will give it a monochromatic scheme that the Mercedes F1 team so often uses and looks great.

There was someone here about a year ago building a cafe Tonti with a silver frame that seems to have disappeared.  What was remarkable was the mods to the front downtubes to incorporate an engine mount since he was eliminating the lower rails.  The quality of the work was impeccable and well documented here with pictures.

Don't recall the name, does this ring a bell anyone?

Man, these are looking really nice. Thanks so far for the great pic/replies. Something popped into my head just now... my engine does not look that bright, maybe the silver frame will emphasize that (in a bad way)? Suggestions (I don't plan on cracking open the engine to steam clean or anything like that, so just some home remedy type thing I can do in my driveway while the engine is off the frame) - I've used some gel engine cleaners, but it didn't really do much. A little, but nothing to brag about.

Thanks again for playing!

It's not powder coat but I'm very pleased with the gloss on my Por15 brush applied paint.
It dries to a hard smooth finish better than  a rattle-can finish.
Don't get it on your skin though, I had black hands for a week ???

I copied that photo from a Craigslist ad for a 93 1000S that was for sale in PA for $6,500.00. I offered the guy $4K which I thought was a more than fair price but it was sold. Can't imagine what price he got for the bike.

Not good pic nor shiny new
Main frame gun metal powder coat-- 25 years ago
lower rails & swingingarm nickel plated-- 15 odd years ago

Plating won't last as long as powder coat if you ride in dirt and rain, will prob try ceramic coating next as on pipes (by HPC)

This is my '75 T3.  The frame is powder coated with a color called "Chrome" that in person shows a bit brighter than "Silver" or "Gray."

A buddy of mine had a lot of nickel plating done on a black 1999 Triumph 955 Daytona.

It was pretty awesome.

Like you, I wanted a mostly stock Guzzi look.  Other than the mufflers, shocks and K&Ns it's pretty much stock or repop Guzzi.  That said, it's kind of a mutt with parts from several non-T3 models.

But it's MY mutt :)
