heat management on 2008 Norge...

well as the winter passes so does the appreciation of the heat blast my newly acquired Norge need some attention.
does anyone have any great ideas on a retro fitting of the heat deflector shield seen on the new Norge, can that be adapted to the heads of older ones?

I ordered a pair of the head shields from the newer bikes and they weren't very expensive.


Made up some brackets from some cheap aluminum stock from HomeD:



Generally it helps but isn't a cure as I need to add more material to block the blast from under the shields. I may just put the lower shields back on and see if that helps.

When I had my Norge I removed the lower shields to get more air.  What I got was more heat so I put them back on.

The complete setup on the Norge works pretty well. I too found it better with all parts in place. I also found that wearing some good boots keeps the heat off the legs, mine are pretty tall Sidi. I ride it year 'round but as I age the heat does influence the time of day I like to ride in the summer!

 I too have an '08 Norge. All of the plastic is completely stock. I am truly happy when I am riding in temps of 70 to 80 degrees. The heat is not even an issue until I hit the 90 degree mark. Very unlikely in the greater Seattle area but highly likely in Eastern Washington State. When it is really hot I move my knees out so that they are about 3 to 4 inches away from the tank. It seems to help move air with the high heat.

If you can do the whole 2ng generation heat management thing it works very well. Riding in 100+ temps and heat from the engine was never a problem. MG really did a great job with the 2nd gen Norge as far as that goes.

Now if you want heat, ride a 80s V65 Honda Sabre and even though liquid cooled, the heat pouring off that monster would make a Louisiana BBQ look tame.
