NGC thoughts on this MZ w/hack.

Same basic bike as my Silver Star, but with different rear wheel and gearing. Never ridden one of those "Gespann" but would like to. With only 34 hp, I can't imagine it's very fast, but it should be loads of fun. Pretty good price too.

Looks to be in very nice condition. I'd say the bike alone is worth 2K+-  depending on condition. As a factory hack, I'd say the price is about right. It will be painfully slow, though, but you know that, right? MZ parts are hard to come by, but sort of available if you know the secret handshake..

Well those are nice hacks.  Track is narrow, car mounted close to bike, very compact outfit.  Seems like a pretty fair price, don't see many of them.  Rode a friends SR500 and that sidecar, very close in everything to this MZ version.  Not enough power for todays expressway speeds, but decent for back road riding and traveling.  Not remembering if the sidecar is braked or not, if it is, it should help quite a bit.  Spoked rear wheel might want to be checked, lots of side loads on rear bike wheels, they may have come with heavier gauge spokes.  I think it would make a nice ride...

A Silver Star in that condition usually sells for ~ $2500, I paid $2200 for mine.

I've ridden a MZ factory Gespann hack w/earls fork front end, same motor & car + Michelin small radial car tires 2up. Surprisingly it could cruise @ 62 mph effortlessly, shifted very smoothly, but had a small gas tank for long distance rides.  Steered very easily compared to   conventional MC front end/ hacks like I was used to.  My only issue with these is getting parts when needed since the motor & MZ are no longer made.  There's supposed to be only 1 person to get parts from now for the motor.  :D

The rig I rode had a built in 3rd brake too.

if you want more power , these are easy to tune
i've got a 600 KTM with the same engine producing 50 HP, producing 34 HP in the MZ that engine should be bullet proof...

Simple 562 Velorex sidecar. Small axle. Rotax engine (Good stuff). Would be nice to see the lower sidecar arm and mount points. Good quality stuff. Ask if it was purchased from Watertowns MZ dealer.

The LL front end setup is better for a hack, but they aren't perfect either.  I'd ride it and then decide if I could live with it.  :)  But if you've never ridden a hack b4 you may not like how different it is too than a conventional bike.  :-\  No matter what it's a light rig for a hack.  :)

Be aware that the MZ Silver Star is a small motorcycle. If you're much larger than me (5' 6" tall, 145 lbs.) you may find it quite cramped.

The steering is rather quick/light solo, so might be about right for sidecar duty.

Better just to buy a "regular" Silver Star (not a Gespann) if that is what you want. Removing the sidecar from the linked rig would likely leave you with an odd handling solo bike with low gearing. You'd really need to change the rear wheel and countershaft sprocket.
