8V stuff. No CCP content.

That would be corn cob pipe content.

When the 8V was launched one of the things that was spruiked was the extra rigidity of the crankshaft. The reason for this is that it no longer has a sludge trap. The lubrication drillings are now 5/6mm directly across the crank at an angle with the drillings plugged by grub screws. This is fine but you wouldn't want to skimp on your oil changes or use shitty oils or filters......

I do, and agree.

Naturally, as with Dennis Cameron's essays on the history and various nuances of the ICE, I understand very little, but do enjoy knowing what I cannot entirely comprehend.  :D

Thanks, Pete. Have drained the oil on my Griso; getting ready to do same to other fluids and replace and start today on (my first) 8v tappet adjustment.

Oh, FWIW, no mayo under the valve covers; they look as clean as a ... [fill in a Roperism that fits ;D].

There's a story behind why the crank of this one is sitting on the bench. The amazing thing is that like all Guzzis since the dawn of time these things are stupidly, and I mean STUPIDLY, strong. Most motors that had been abused like this one would be on the way to the recycler! I'd in fact already tee'd up a second handy to replace this one but on pulling it apart I find that all it will need is a few hundred dollars worth of parts and a swag of time! Same as the last one. Different parts on that and a Griso is MUCH easier to work on and extract the donk out of than a Stelvio so it'll be cheaper but both of those engines I thought would be essentially throw-aways and both of them actually needed comparatively little in terms of parts.

We hang the Stelvio on chain block and ratchet strap to the roof truss, coupled with a scissors jack table under the engine and after removing millions of tiny bolts securing the tupperwares, it took a lot of patient and time to get it out.

Your door to my door is about 7 days away, I reckon they will show up in my letter box tomorrow  ;D

We have buttoned up the "donk" on Monday, tomorrow is the day we shoehorn it back to the frame  ::)

I am not sure about Norge, only 3 Norge in the country and I don't know them.

Norge may have more plastic pieces but I believe Stelvio probably tops the "number of fasteners per square inch of plastic"  ::)

Phang, the ofter you remove the stelvio plastic, the faster it gets, you don't need to loose all of them.

Be aware that the plastic cover on the LH side of the timing chest which on some earlier models had the breather coming off it makes getting the engine back in the stelvio frame particularly vexatious. The front down tube wants to foul it and you have to sort of 'Wriggle and Twist' it in. It's hateful! ;D

Paul, that's my mate's bike and I hope I don't need to do it so often.

Pete, we made a new one from 3mm aluminum plate. Hopefully the thinner profile will save us from "wriggle and twist". We learnt that when dropping the engine.
